I would like to purchase the Duet to operate this machine:

It has NEMA23 motors with these specs

I'm sorry, that link doesn't work for me. I tried a few variation such as removing your order ID from the URL, but they didn't work either.
The 1.8A rated current is OK.

For some reason it also seems I got a different motor than what specified
This is what the data sheet says:
It seems that this will be at the higer end of what the duet wifi can handle
Is it okay or should I get external drivers? -
You didn't embed the image, you embedded the site, therefore the image doesn't display in your post.
A 2.8A rated stepper motor is a good match for a Duet Wifi, as generally one shouldn't exceed 85% of rated current on a stepper.
