Enclosure & Air filter question
-
I have build a custom CoreXY from scratch.
I am now considering an enclosure with an air filtering system for ABS and other filament that produce toxic gas.
From different source, I found out that I should go with an activated carbon filter.
My questions:
Enclosure:-
Should I close the enclosure over the board (to keep it cool)?
-
Should I try to use some more expensive material to more heat inside the enclosure (Lexan, plastic sheeting, suggestion)?
Air filter
-
Should I go with activated carbon?
-
Should I pierce the enclosure to put the "fan & filter dock"?
-
If so, where should I mount the dock, I see some design with the fan in the middle of the top, shouldn't that extract most heat?
-
Should I install the air filtering system completely inside the enclosure to try to keep the heat inside?
Any other suggestion?
Thank you

This is not my area of expertise but from what I observed at the TCT show most enclosed machines were also aiming to get a heated chamber effect as well as to prevent fumes.
If you are going to aim to keep the chamber hot as well as enclosed then I assume during normal printing you will want minimal airflow, but you will want to evacuate the chamber of fumes one the print is finished but before the door is opened.
It's a good idea to keep the Duet as cool as possible so don't stick it inside the enclosure.

Very good idea… I could add some code in sleep mode to filter the fumes after the print.
I will have to test to see if the pressure from the air within the enclosure will cause it to exit through the filter even without assistance from the fan...
IMO for this particular situation, without building an automated open / closed window system, I should locate the filter at the bottom, heat raises so if some air exits at least it should be the coolest...
Thanks you

I would have the fan at the top of the enclosure with a flap over it. Fan connected to duct running outside. Place the filter on the bottom with a flap on top of it as well. The filter flap needing the best seal to keep any fumes from leaking by it. When done printing, kick on the fan. It will pull open the filter flap and push open the fan flap exhausting all of the fumes outside.
