Custom filament colors

The yarns have been dyed for thousands of years, why not do the same with filaments? As an architect, I prefer calm tones rather than bold colors. I got the idea when I dyed the filament with a marker to check microstepping settings. Yes, the color appeared in the print.
Has anybody tried this already and are there any commercial solutions? Water may be an issue.
