Crimping PH pins (1LC) - what is the trick
-
@jens55 I use a PA09 too and I haven't had any problems crimping the wires to connect to tool board 1.1. I guess that if the wires are extremely thin then you might need to put tape or heatshrink on them to thicken the insulation, or cut the wings short as you suggest; but I have only needed to do this when crimping JST VH connectors.
-
@dc42, funny, I can crimp reliable VH crimps all day long. They are a nice size to handle. The JST PH ones, the really tiny guys are what I am having difficulty with.
-
TBH I can't remember whether I used the PA09 or the PA21 to crimp the JST PH pins. They have different profiles.

@jens55 same problem here. It's very difficult... the PH Crimps are way better
It's a small board but maybe it would be better to use a slightly bigger board with bigger contacts...
It will also be better for me and my big fingers... -

There have been several complaints that the board is too large!

Maybe I am getting my connectors mixed up .... I thought the VH connectors are the bigger ones for the power connector and the PH are the tiny ones for the stepper, fans, temp sensors etc etc .....
I haven't placed the order yet with DigiKey so please somebody confirm that the PH connector is the smaller of the two! -

Good God, how could you possibly make it smaller and still have room for connectors ?

Exactly! There is a smaller tool board (not Duet-compatible) designed by the Voron guys, but it has fewer connectors and no EMI management components.

@jens55 on toolboard V1.1 the smaller crimps are JST PH compatible

@t3p3tony, thanks for confirming !
