Do I have to connect to my router?
-
I just got my DuetWifi and it looks really sweet! I am a veteran Ramps 1.4 user and tried upgrading to a Replicape on a BeagleBoneBlack. That didn't work out so well for me as the Replicape is not very far in development for my needs. This WiFi board looks like it will suite my needs very well.
Anyway I'm planning on adding a 7" screen with Panel Due soon. In the meantime I will use my tablet to run the printer. My question is why do I have to connect to my router if I'm only planning on using the tablet with my printer? I have the Wifi connection working from my tablet to my DuetWifi but it asks me to choose a Router and enter the password to connect to it?
Is this step necessary or can I just skip by it? I use my printer at home as well as at work which would be on 2 different routers.
I hope my questions make sense.
Please advise,
Thanks -
Currently, if you want to connect to the Duet WiFi via WiFi, you need to connect via a router.

If this is a massive pain due to moving from one location to the other often then you might want to look at a small nano router. I have used TP link before.

Could you use the same SSID/pw at home and work? That should save it as well, I'd think.

Once the WiFi settings can be integrated into config.g, would this be a good case for using a Macro to allow users to easily connect to several different SSIDs?

I showed few weeks ago my printer to my fablab and i forget to bring a router with me. I used the access point from my smartphone to connect the printer and it works great. Maybe you can use this tablet functionality.

This is what I was hoping I could do, Bypass using the router at work (Its for a huge network in the building). I just wasn't sure if the DuetWiFi access point was capable of running the printer.
I did order a Panel Due with a 7" screen yesterday. They are back ordered right now but when it arrives I won't have to worry with transporting my printer to different locations.
