Poor search function within the Forum
-
Searching for info using the main search bar gives totally different results.
For instance, I am looking for info when sending a print to the Duet, and I would like to send bed and nozzles temps as variables as well as calling my start macro on the Duet board..
So my search term is just 'Slicer Macro'
I have found if I create a new post and put my search term in that I get a better result.
This is using the top search bar in say in the HomePage.
Lots of totally irrelevant info! When creating a new topic with same search term, Lots of good info
I feel that after being on the forum for over 2 years and seeing the same questions again and again it is down to the search function or issue with it.
I was about to post a question the other week and when I was typing the topic I found that I had previously asked it about a year ago and immediately had my answer.
No need for a new question! But I only found that info when creating a new topic, so to me, it looks like there is something a miss with the normal search function.
Many a time I have looked for info using the search on the main page, have not found what I needed, submitted a new question only to be pointed to a topic that has all the answers I need.

@paulhew thanks for the report. The database search is not the best and you make a good point about people posting the same topic because it does not show up in search results. Next time I am doing forum work I will look at what the difference between the two "searches" is.

@t3p3tony You best hurry up, otherwise there will be another topic about the same thing in here!!!
Thanks Tony

@paulhew isn’t the main search in ‘posts’, while I would imagine the new thread search is on ‘titles’? Try doing the main search in ‘titles’. I would test, but on mobile.

@droftarts is correct. The main search looks at both 'posts' and 'titles'.
Editing the search criteria to just 'titles' brings up the same posts as you've highlighted in your new post screen shot -
@paulhew said in Poor search function within the Forum:
Slicer Macro
Those two terms are incredibly common words in 3d printing and obviously will unearth a ton of irrelevant results. When searching, always try and think of the most unique keywords that capture what you're after.

@phaedrux Thanks for the input.
Apologies all, and thanks for the guidance. My 2 search terms returns 3 items if I selected Titles and yes if I search Titles and posts = loads
All I have found is some examples of macros with
M190 R[bed0_temperature]
but no explanation of the M98 command to pass the commands into the macro.
Nothing on Dozuki either.Looks like I will have to create a post! lol

@paulhew Passing variables to macros is bleeding edge new, so I'm not surprised it hasn't shown up in many threads yet.
