Duet 6HC bed heater with SSR
-
@Phaedrux
With the SSR disconnected as shown in the picture, the LED light still switches on and voltage is 24V across OUT_0.When removing the bridging (green wires) the LED switches off and the voltage is 0 across OUT_0 terminals.
(The SD card is still inside the board)

@dani this does look like the bed MOSFET has failed open. But can you check by removing the SD cardand resetting? And what firmware version are you running? Send M122 and post the report, please.

What do you mean by removing the SD card and resetting please? Will I lose all data by doing so? Sorry for asking but I am new to 3D printers.

@dani just remove the sd card, turn the board on and see if the LED for out0 comes on

@jay_s_uk with the sd card removed I still got the same result as above^

version 3.01-RC2
You are running some early firmware, so it's just possible this is a firmware bug. Please can you download the firmware bundle called "Duet2and3Firmware-3.2.2.zip" from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/3.2.2 and upload to the Duet via Duet Web Console > System tab > Upload System Files. This should update the firmware on the board, and DWC. Then check if the Out_0 LED is still on all the time power is applied.

@droftarts I tried to update the firmware as instructed. I managed to upload the zip file to DWC. I read that I am supposed to be asked to install the firmware. However this did not happen.
-
@dani The System page says that the SD card is not mounted; the SD card is needed to save the firmware files, before installing them. I don't think you're running with a Raspberry Pi attached (doesn't say so in M122 response). Did you remove the SD card? If so, put it back in, and send
M21
to initialise the SD card, or reset the board. Then re-upload the firmware binary only, this file: "Duet3Firmware_MB6HC.bin" from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/3.2.2
If it doesn't install, you may need the correct IAP (In-App Programmer) file (which does the job of flashing the firmware) for 3.01-RC2, which I think is: "Duet3iap_sd_MB6HC.bin" from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/3.0
Upload that, too. Both files should appear in the sys folder.
If it doesn't ask you if you want to update the firmware, sendM997 S0
.
If you get any errors, or this doesn't work, let me know.Ian

@droftarts thanks a lot for your reply.
The SD card was inserted in the board when I uploaded the fzip fila and still is. I have tried to run M21 but DWC seems to keep on buffering and the g-code is not sent. "Drive is unmounted" message is still displayed.
What do you mean by reset the board please? Do I need to restart it by switching it off and on again? Or do I need to actually press the reset button on the board?

Yes, either of those.

@droftarts ok so I managed to successfully update the firmware, thanks a lot. However no luck with the heater problem. I am using the wiring as described below. The bed heater still heats up immediately as soon as I switch on the board any other suggestions of what I can do?
@dani said in Duet 6HC bed heater with SSR:
Hi,
I am trying to connect the bed heater using an SSR. The connections so far are as attached below. My problem is that whenever I switch on the power supply, the RED LED of OUT_0 switches on and remains on. Also, the bed heater starts to heat up immediately. Is there someone who can help me with this problem please?
I also tried to set a temperature for the bed heater from the interface but the temperature continued increasing beyond this set temperature.
Thanks.

@dani Unfortunately, it looks like the bed MOSFET has failed open. Please contact the reseller you bought it from, and initiate a warranty return, using this thread as authorisation. Apologies for the inconvenience.
