Type-C Support?
-
Hey, I'll be honest, I'm a little too lazy too search the threads. I am hoping that with this: https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/minimuffin
This challenge might be easier and may enable faster implementation. I've been looking into Google's Open-Source projects….they have quite a bit of them!!

Do you mean an interface board between the current duet and a type usb type c. I cant see the point for which there is no point currently as the micro usb is still far more prevalent and cheaper.
-
I looked at using a USB C socket instead of Micro USB last year, mostly because I am one of those people who always needs 3 goes to get the orientation of the USB plug right before it will fit in the socket. Unfortunately, USB C sockets are still expensive - but less expensive than they used to be.

Well yeah, I always need to do it 3 times before I get it right. That is part of it. The other part of it is by the time a new board comes out, I would expect to have the new Type-C standard just so there is no upgrade that really needs to be done with that. If it's supported, then you can always just have one or the other. To be honest, I've seen magnetic chargers for phones, like this: https://youtu.be/Tr8BB84pGBk
I'm thinking type C would be easier and the next logical step (eventually).
But I'm trying to fiddle with this magnetic power connector if I can find connectors or a way to make it cheap enough. I'm lazy, I want things easy. Don't take this as "the product is no good" because that's not what it is at all. Type C is just easy. Yes Micro USB is far more common, that is short lived though. Type C is better everywhere except cost. That's all. Just trying to make it easier with a circuit too.

Such a shame they couldn't have included a mandatory raised area on one side of the usb plug to ensure it always the right way around, and agreed a standard for orientation of the socket. Type C is a good idea (not that we need another billion chargers to go into landfill) and offering higher wattage is not a bad thing though.

Type C would definitely be welcome on the panel due…. I feel like im going to break that connector right off one of these days. thankfully i dont have to access it very often.
-
They do break off, I read here, so I'm super careful with mine.
-
We had a few instances of users breaking off the USB connector of the original design. In version 2 we changed to a USB connector with through hole mounting lugs - the same one that the Duet uses - and we have had no further reports of it happening.

If you got enough room before the connector: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Type-C-USB-C-Female-Micro-USB-Male-Adapter-Converter-Connector-/272354505704
