Did I brick my Duet?
-
Does anything light up on the board when connected to power?
-
@Phaedrux yep, the end stops (they go out when I hit the switches) and one led near the USB port
The ethernet port does not light up (also not on the switch)

Unfortunately not a sign of intelligent life on the board, that's purely a result of the voltage at the signal pin, similar for the USB LED afaik.
Can you measure the 3.3v voltage and try to see if anything is a miss with the reset button or anything wired to a reset pin?
-
@bearer I think you are right...
Bummer, well case of "the king is dead, long live the king" I guess.. Good excuse to upgrade to a duet 3...
-
That's too bad, I was looking forward to seeing the rare old hardware coming to life.

try CPR? (Central processor replacemnt;)
-
@bearer done for me two times.
-
@seraser Thats for someone with better SMD skills than me I fear...
-
@bearer , I checked the processor is only EUR 10, perhaps with shipping this becomes EUR 15. Seems a waste not to try it.
Can you give some advice? Just wick the solder away, take off the broken processor, flux it and solder on the new processor 4 leads at the time or so???
Or should I be using solder paste?
I have a TS100 iron but do not have a reflow oven (but I do have a normal oven, that has been used to bake back on the GPU of the old iMac a few times)
-
I doubt you could pull the old chip by just wicking the solder, most likely need hot air (or IR, or a fancy lqfp desoldering tip).
When removed, wick pads clean, and google drag solder to make easy work of soldering in the new.
Check you inbox btw

It looks like I bricked my 'vintage' Duet 0.6 board whilst testing out the illustrious Duex4 expansion.
I have since replaced it with a new gen III board, but I have another CNC that would be very happy to benefit from a Duet 0.6.
@bearer thinks that i may have fried the processor which is definitely out of my expertise to replace.
Would any of you be happy to undertake it if I supply the broken board and a new CPU?
I think Germany or Poland would be the best location as it seems expensive to send the board back to me (in The Netherlands) from Norway...
Many thanks in advance!

hard choice i would say.
since you can get a SKR MINI E3 V1.2 for like 22 euros. -
Yeah, cheapest untracked* option is NOK 70 or about €7 return postage from Norway, so if any of the wonderful EU based people could do it, odds are it'd be cheaper (there is also the impending import tax thing for me, covid pushed the new rules back "until further notice").
As for whats wrong, the troubleshooting done so far does point to CPU not working, but would obviously inspect 3.3v supply and reset signal before replacing it. And there is no guarantee damage is limited to the CPU.
*) anything with tracking is in the €25-40 range
-
@sylvaindc Sure. I can replace CPU and do some tests before putting a new one.
