Duet 3 Mini 5+ : Initial announcement
-
@T3P3Tony
No worries here... I do not care whether I order them at you or at a reseller. But I want one of them. I have the frame here ready to fit the board in.
And I'm sure that I'm not the only one in this situation. So I do not want to end where all the PSP buyers ended. -
@T3P3Tony Which reseller in Germany will receive a stock? I hope it will happen before Christmas
-
I wait for stock in E3donline. I hope in next week

Hi,
main question - what is steprate of DUET3 mini and DUET3 ?
Were looking and didn't found.Second question regarding upload speeds.
Got DUET2Wifi and upload speed is not the best, specially it's long process when you upload big files.
Often my files are over 150mb.I was looking for alternative for 2.4Ghz modules and found RTL8720DN which is 802.11 a/b/g/n.
Will be possible to adapt to DUET2 or duet3 mini such modules. -
if you want upload speed go for the ethernet one.
also if you connect a raspberry pi your connection options become far greater. you can use any wifi adapter that works with the pi (or the pi build in one) and the upload speed depends on what the pi can handle (far higher than the duet 3 in standalone mode)
you can connect a pi to a duet 2, see here. https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/17203/duet-2-ethernet-and-sbc/272
you gain the same benefits. -

DUET3 mini and DUET3
If you compare the Ethernet version of the Mini with the 6HC the key differences are processor and stepper motors. See the Documentation pages here:
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_Mini_5plus_Hardware_overview
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_Mainboard_6HC_Hardware_OverviewOn the 6HC you get 6 stepper drivers capable of up to 6.3A peak, on the Mini 5+ you get 5 drivers capable of 2A peak.
The processor of the 6HC is more powerful so will allow for greater number of CANFD expansion boards, the mini 5+ processor will allow for fewer (maximum not yet tested).
alternative for 2.4Ghz modules
Its not just the module that is the limitation but also the fact that a microcontroller is handling this rather than a CPU. As @Veti says the Ethernet is a bit quicker. and the SBC is much quicker.

Some of the step rates can be found here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AWA1wLbOaYzxzdQa5LRZvn9rgEk2BuluHy6-_OnD6FY
I haven't measured the step rate of the Duet 3 Mini yet, but it should be similar to or slightly faster than the Duet WiFi/Ethernet.

Did I understand the specs correctly, I can't have both a BLTouch, filament sensor and PanelDuo attached?

where did you get that idea from? paneldue connects to io0, whereas bltouch needs pwm ports which are io3 or io6
-
I have seen all the resellers in EU, and I don't see the board announced or in stock.
It will be available in January ? -

@Reine This page is probably better for looking at the IO inputs
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_Mini_5plus_Wiring
Theres 5 I/O's and 2 inputs only.
This is more than enough for a paneldue, endstops, filament monitor and bltouch -
@jay_s_uk thank you, that makes more sense. I'm looking to get one of the v3 boards, the 6CH is overkill but leaves room to grow.
The v2 boards used JST XT connectors for the steppers, all v3 uses the larger VH? -
@Reine the mini 5+ uses standard molex KK connectors.
Only the 6HC and 3HC use the VH connectors so they can support higher current steppers -
Quick update on availability. Our assemblers are running a bit behind so we only managed to get stock out to e3d and Filastruder, the remaining resellers will get stock in early January. Sorry that we could not get any to our European resellers in time for them to stock them before Christmas.
Please give both e3d and filastruder time to get the boards in and update their websites!

Thank you very much for the update Tony!
I will keep a close look to e3d for the next days.Cheers, Chriss

Gentlepersons, start your engines!
Ok, time to start thinking seriously about printer I need to build next so as to justify one of these...
-
@whopping-pochard The engine is running at 6k rpm since 2 month already. The frame is ready, the extrudors are on there way.... You are a bit behind...
-
-
Now to wait for a European reseller to stock them (-:
