Modix Big120X Upgrade
-
I've got one of these gigantic printers with a RAMPS controller. I'm considering upgrading the whole control system to the Duet 3. Modix just released a version 3 of their printer with a Duet 2 but I figured why not go right to the Duet 3. The whole reason for this is to be able to use the magnetic filament monitors. Its no fun when a 24 hour print fails in the last hours because the filament jammed.
I want to make sure all of this will work before I order a ton of stuff.
With the Duet 3 and a raspberry Pi, I would just run a touchscreen off the Pi's HDMI port and not use a PanelDue right?
Right now I think the setup is:
Duet3:
X Y Z Steppers
Output to heated bed SSR
Bed temp sensor
CAN bus to Tool Distribution to two toolboardsToolboard 1 has:
- Extruder Stepper 1
- Heater 1
- Fan 1
- Filament Monitor 1
- BLTouch
- Nozzle Blower Fan
Toolboard 2 has:
- Extruder Stepper 2
- Heater 2
- Fan 2
- Filament Monitor 2
Any feedback on the setup would be appreciated!

That all sounds good, except that the firmware support for filament monitors connected to tool boards or Duet 3 expansion boards isn't written yet. It's planned for the RRF 3.02 release.

Awesome thanks! Any idea when that release is planned to happen?
Edit: Is it possible to directly connect the monitors to the Duet 3 mainboard with the current firmware?

Release 3.01 should be out by the end of this month. 3.02 will most likely arrive late March or late April.

Yes.
