WiFi Module Problem
-
Hi all. I have a Duet WiFi 1.01 that has been running well in my core xy printer for a few years. Recently I decided to disasmble that printer and build a large Delta. I had everything setup and with USB power was able to connect to the web interface and change my config.g and check my endstops. Then I decided to turn on the 24V PSU and things went a little haywire.
Long story short I have disconnected everything and with 24V I see the 3v and 5v LEDs on, but the diag light is constant and the wifi module is not turning on. I can connect via prontoface and when I run M122 it says Error Status: 1 but says all stepper motors are OK. I checked the ESP module and I am getting 3.3V there.
I am wondering three things:
-
is it all possible that only the WiFi module got fried? I am considering trying to replace that module but don't want to go through the hassle if other components are damaged
-
Is there any more diagnostics I can run?
-
What may have caused this type of failure?
I am using the Delta smart effector, 24V power, 120v bed heater.
I also tried flashing the wifi firmware but get a communication failure.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the formatting, I am on my phone.
Editing to add: sd card reader is fine too

It sounds to me that there may have been either a short between +3.3V and +5V or a transient on the +3.3V rail. The most sensitive components running from +3.3V are the SD card and the WiFi module. So it is entirely possible that just the WiFi module needs to be replaced.

@dc42 Thanks for the prompt reply. I think I'm going to try to replace that module. Will a ESP-12E be compatible? (I see it's a ESP-12F)

Yes, although most people when changing go to an ESP-07 so they can have an external antenna for improved WiFi signal

@jay_s_uk Great, thanks

The preferred module is ESP-12S (internal antenna) or ESP-07S (external antenna).
