swapping out ESP module for ethernet module
-
am contemplating desoldering the built-in ESP12 module on my DuetWifi for with this wired ethernet module instead, I should gotten the wired version since I had the network cabling available, the wifi is just too unreliable for me but too late for that
is this module swap advisable? any specific firmware issues or flashing of the module needed? -
I'm not sure about the module you posted link - I don't think it is compatible.
Duet3D sells the correct ethernet module on their shop: https://www.duet3d.com/DuetAddons/DuetEthernet_Module
If you take this one and solder it correctly, it will work. There are a few people on the forum who have already done the conversion. -
Alternatively if the problem WiFi signal strength, you can replace the ESP12S module by ESP07S + external antenna.

@dc42 ok dc...yea i got one of those too with an external antenna....i can swap it out but do i need to worry about flashing anything into the ESP07S?

You will need to copy DuetWiFiServer.bin into /sys on the SD card if it isn't already there. Then send M997 S1 from USB or PanelDue to install it on the new module.
Make sure it is the ESP-07S that you have. The older ESP-07 won't work.

yes is 07S indeed...just got it done, piece of cake, working much better...thanks @dc42 you are a champ!
