Here's how I define the probe on my smart effector:
M558 P5 R0.4 F1200 H5 ; Set Z probe type to switch, the axes for which it is used and the probe + travel speeds
G31 P100 X0 Y0 Z-0.080 ; Set Z probe trigger value, offset and trigger height -
Hi Bill,

Have you followed the instructions at https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Smart_effector_and_carriage_adapters_for_delta_printer#Section_Commissioning ?
-
Are you saying that the Z probe reading (displayed in Duet Web Control, or returned when you send G31 with no parameters) is always 1000? If so, that suggests you have a bad crimp connection in the cable from the 8-way connector to the Duet. If the green LED on the Smart Effector is behaving normally, then the bad connection is in the wire form the OUT pin of the Smart Effector to the IN pin of the Z probe connector on the Duet. Or perhaps you have wired it to the wrong pin.

Howdy,
I've re crimped all of it and now I get the values from 0 (which I did go hurray) to 1000. As the smart efffector when 1st turned on it blinks twice and then with no fans turned on it just randomly blinks. The values are all over the area from 0 to 1000 on the duet web control screen. I'm going to go back on check all my crimps but I must be missing something. When you gently tap the hot end you briefly see it turn on but then goes back to the random blinking with strange 0- 1000 z probe values.Again so much thanks to any who read this. (my wife thinks I'm crazy for trying this;)

@trout-thug are there any other potential strong sources of interference right next to the smart effector? have yu changed the sensitivity from the default?
-
I just tried to change the sensitivity all the way up to 200, but the green led and values keep changing. I unplugged the 6 way molex connector on the effector to eliminate the interference and I still keep getting the varying values and led's random blinking. I will go back and again check my crimping but with the fans not even connected and nothing else that could cause interference, what could I be missing? Or do I have a bad effector??
Again I thank you for reading and helping. I did take a video but I don't know how I could attach the file to show the blinking and random z values.

Bill in coloradoUpload it to YouTube, as 'unlisted' if you wish, and paste the link here.

https://youtu.be/kf014E1zGjM . I turn on the power, it blinks x2 and then just goes funky. I will try to upload the pict of the z probe values on there shortly.

And here is what I see on my screen. https://youtu.be/GqBXmWTTms4.
Again thanks,

Assuming that your printer isn't sitting on a vibrating table and you didn't film that video during an earthquake, I think your Smart Effector is faulty. Please ask your supplier to replace it.

Nope I'm fresh out of the vibrating tables and I didn't feel any seismic activity . I'll contact filastruder.
Thanks again to all for your help,
