New Test Forum

Hi Tony,
I signed as a new username, posts several replies, uploaded a profile picture.
So far, seems to be working good.Cheers Guy. When we do the proper migration hopefully you can do a password reset on this account and keep your old.posts.

Thanks for the feedback. I will ask Matt to see if the number of existing posts can be migrated in that sense (it does show you as having all the previous posts so not sure why it does not count them).
I looked at this. You don't get "reputation" based on how long you've been a member, or how many posts you have by default. We could either disable the reputation system all together, or we could probably just give all existing members reputation based on their number of posts or some flat number.
in general reputation is designed to prevent spam and other bad behavior. You get reputation for having your posts upvoted. By default you only have to get to 3 reputation to have the posts per 120 seconds restriction lifter. If we don't like this idea, or don't think it adds value, it can be shut off completely.

Personally I think its great; just a couple of things I'd suggest:
-
The 'home page' listing the forums is a bit crammed and would benefit from being given a bit more padding between items. The rest of the site is roomy; its just the home page
-
The home page and the categories page appear to be the same - or is there a difference. Its a bit confusing and I'd probably drop the first link in the menu to hid the categories if you intend to keep the categories on the home page.
-
GDPR is looming so I'd make sure you have some definition of your privacy and GDPR policies - don't want to be stung with GDPR fines!
Looking good though!
The home page and the category page where / are the same thing. Eventually we can develop a custom home page for for now I changed it to be the "Recent" tab as that is a bit more interesting to land on. I also enabled a setting that allows users to select their own home page. You can configure this in your settings.
I agree that it is cramped, trying to come up with some solutions for that.

I have done a bit of hack for the cramped category page. please let me know what you think…

It would be helpful if a few more people would play with the new forum over this weekend. maybe we can arrange to hang out there for a hour at a specific time make some posts and refresh a few pages. I would like to cnfirm the ucrrent setup is happy under "normal" load.
Does 1800-1900 BST (1700-1800 UTC, 0900-1000 PST, 1200-1300 EST) tomorrow evening work for some people?
For those people who have just registered here, the new forum is at:
If you did not have an account here before 20 march then you will need to create a new account there.
This is still in test and a full migration of everything over to that forum will be happening sometime fairly soon, once we are happy with this new forum.

Hello
If anyone has a few minutes over the next hour please head over to:
Login, reset your password if need be, create and account if you are new on this forum (joined here after 20 march).
Once online please reply to some topics, browse around, upload a few pictures (2mb/1024px limit, keep it clean please). I just want to see how the new forum responds to a bit of load.
Thanks!

Been doing my best although a bit late. Getting lonely over there.
I noticed that .g file types are not supported as native uploads. Maybe they should be so that people can easily upload their configs or homing files when requesting assistance?

Will the subscription email notifications work differently on the new forum? I find I subscribe to many threads so I can watch them - at the moment on the old forum these notifications stop after the first one.
This means that I don't get notified of any other replies until I visit the forum. The trouble is that the 2nd one might be the one I'm waiting for and I don't get it!
Ideally I'd like an email for each new post to threads I'm subscribed to.
Is this possible on the new forum?
Other than that, this one looks good to me!
Richard

This forum is about to go into maintenance mode for migration.
-
Aaaaaand we are live!

Looks great!

Nice, only small suggestion. I think language support should be removed, it is a lite bit strange to have part of the forum in my main language (Polish) and part in English.
-
Hmm i can work out how to disable that if you prefer
-
User profile -> Settings -> Language

@dragonn as @AdiGital mentioned, you can update this yourself!
-
@adigital Yeah this work when you are logged in already, but before you login in I got 'Zaloguj się' and others messages in Polish. I don't see the point for working it like that.

lets move the conversation to the welcome thread
