Duet 3 6HC w/ expansion boards
-
Quick question,
I think I'm just going to use my 6HC on my AWD voron build and add in a 3HC expansion and then move my duet 2 over to my big machine that I'm slowly working on.
With 9 stepper drivers + a toolboard, would there be any issues with splitting one of the sets of 4x stepper motors across the can connection?
I figure my XXYY setup will just connect to drivers on the 6HC, and the Z axis motors will have 2 motors on the 6HC, and 2 motors on the 3HC. does anyone see any issues with this or is the CAN-FD connection fast enough that it won't make a difference?

@michaelr123 that looks like a good solution to me. With RRF it's certainly possible to drive the X and Y motors over CAN (and necessary when using Duet3D closed loop motors or drivers), but as X and Y move the fastest it's better to connect them to the main board if you have the option. My own tool changer has the Z axis driven from a 3HC.

Excellent, thank you!
Currently stuck looking at the Z-probe scanner and trying to decide if I want to throw that in the cart as well
