Voron 2.4 and Duet Electronics and Wiring
-
I am soon building a Voron V2.4 R2. I am planning to use Duet electronics on it. My plan right now is to use the Duet 2 WiFi board with a Duet X5 expansion board sine the printer has 7 stepper motors. I have a few questions:
Would the Duet 3 with an expansion board be a better option and why?
Has anyone done this with either board? If you have can you provide a config.g file I could use as a starting point?
Any other recommendations or advice would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

@JADoglio Fyi, there's plenty of config files and macro files on GitHub to get you going. Make sure you understand them before implementing though.

@R4ffers Thanks. I will check out Github as well.

The Duet3 would be a bit more future proof as the Duet2 flash capacity is nearing the limit, so adding new features would require removing some others, possibly seldom used kinematics at first.
Duet3 also allows for using an SBC like a Pi for faster network access and the use of a generic HDMI touch screen.
A toolboard on the extruder simplifies print head wiring greatly, which is only possible with Duet3.

@Phaedrux Thanks. I would up ordering the Duet 3 Mini 5+ with the 1XD expansion board. Any other suggestions for improving this are appreciated.

@JADoglio 1lc toolboard is awesome for me

We have a complete bundle with Duet3d electronics, so you can use Duet3D certainly!
Here if you'd like to take a look:

The Mini5+ with the Mini2+ is the basic solution, but using the Duet3 6HC would let you to go a step forward. Consider to install the 1LC because the accelerometer function will be useful.
If you are doing a new printer we suggest about bed leveling sensor consider to use the new tap option if you have to print with heated bed and closed panels. The omron sensor is perfect if you use the printer with low temperature material such us PLA, otherwise you have to be careful because it can be damaged after some months of use (it is very near the heating bed and the hot-end).
Hope this could help you, and welcome in the Voron world also! -
similar question, i currently use a Duet 3 Mini 5+ and a 1LC toolboard. i have 2 spare stepper drivers, and i am planning to upgrade to IDEX.
is it "better" to continue expanding off of my Duet 3 Mini 5+ and maybe add expansion boards, or would it be better to start with 6HD or 6XD? thinking of future proofing etc. is the Mini 5+ a sufficient base to build upon?

@RogerPodacter Depends how fancy you plan on getting. The 6HC etc has more ram and flash to work with and larger drivers, etc. So if you're wanting something to grow into, that may be the way to go.
The mini5+ is already pretty expandable with the 2 driver add on and Canbus.
In other words, you're spoilt for choice.
