Z Offset + Babystep Offset
-
Hello, my printer currently has a Z offset of 4. I have tried to adjust this to get the best quality print. I found that setting my babystep offset to 0.86 works. If I were to change the Z offset to 4.86 and change the baby step offset to 0, would I get the same results as having the 2 separate offsets or would it be a different number?

If you are increasing the spacing between the nozzle and the bed using baby-stepping that means your Z Trigger Height setting (the Z parameter in G31) is too large.
So subtract the .86 from the 4.00.
When you get the Z parameter spot on then baby-stepping, when needed, should be a must smaller number, maybe +/- 0.05.

@fcwilt No I am decreasing the distance. So if I increase the distance, I would subtract and if I am decreasing the distance, I would add. Right?

Then that number should display as -0.86 on the DWC.
If that is what it is doing then you still subtract it but subtracting a negative number is the same as adding the absolute value.
So just remember that if you take the actual baby-stepping value without changing the sign then you can always subtract it and get the correct value for the Z Trigger Height.
Frederick.
