Future development?

Hello. Everyone knows that a crisis is developing all over the world with the production and supply of microcontrollers. This also applies to those chips that are used in 3D printer boards. There is an opinion that soon it will be very difficult to buy boards. I would like to know what plans for the further development of the company "Duet3d". Which controllers are planned to be used in future developments. Should I stock up on boards now?

@vladimir_u we have been ordering and buying the critical components in advance (because it's not just microcontrollers that are in short supply), and we currently have good stocks of those components for all Duet3D products. In some cases we have made minor PCB revisions to accommodate components in different packages to the ones we normally use.
We have no immediate plans to switch to different families of microcontrollers, because the microcontrollers from other manufacturers that would be suitable are also in very short supply. Likewise we shelved a plan to use a FPGA in one of our future projects, because FPGAs are also in short supply.

@dc42 Thanks for the reply. Apparently, hard times are coming...

From a component purchasing perspective, hard times have been here for at least a year already.

@dc42 Ordinary users have only now begun to feel it for themselves.

@vladimir_u capitalism at work

@dc42 David, could you tell us more about the new product in which the fpga was supposed to be used? Is the power of the controllers already insufficient to control a 3d printer? Or is the fpga for some other purposes?

@infiniteloop Unfortunately, socialism has lost to capitalism...probably with our help.

Large scale socialism is doomed to get corrupt and fail.
Small scale socialism is the norm for thousands of years. Every household is a socialist unit, "From each according to ability; to each according to need".
