Filament Monitor CAD Model
-
The github only has .stl files for the magnetic filament monitor enclosure v2. Is it possible to upload CAD files that are solid bodies?
For some reason, Solidworks won't open the step files here either:

@iff7378 enclosurev2 was designed in open SCAD. I am still tweaking that script testing different slicers but will upload it once its done

Ok, looking forward to it thanks!

I modelled the "LaserFilamentSensorHousing_DC42_new_base.STL" if you want it... PM me your e-mail if you want it. Made in SW 2020 SP4

@thatninthguy Thanks but I need the magnetic filament monitor version. I'm trying to incorporate solid mounting for it in an extruder bracket im designing.
I could use the .stl files but SW hates modelling with meshes.

@iff7378 the OpenSCAD wont generate anything that SW likes unfortunately.
This is not completely finished hence not released.

@t3p3tony I see that. Attempted to go through FreeCAD to get a .step file but that's proving tricky. Looking like I'll reverse engineer it from the .stl file and remake it in SW.

@iff7378 OpenSCAD is nice for these sorts of designs where you want to give a configurable model without needing to use the CAD software but its definitely a different approach for solid modellers. At least you have the dimensions in the script which should help!

I decided to try and decipher the OpenSCAD model and came up with this model that isn't full detailed but should be sufficient for anyone trying to design mounting provisions above an extruder.

Since the only OpenSCAD model I could find was here it and it was only part of the overall design, I took a stab at converting the existing STLs to STEP. Fortunately, Fusion now has some amazing mesh conversion tools that work way better than the old ones.
You can download all the STEP files here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yEQl6eFEXDHZo_CcrfZ3UPq_aytNiZQN/view?usp=sharing
