Duet3D PCB delta printer effector sneak preview

DJ there are 2 connectors on it a 8 way single row for thesensors etc and a 3x2 for heater fan and thermistors/temp sensor it took me about 3 minutes to take it of the machine for the photo

Hello. It's my first message in this forum but I has been reading it for a few month. Sorry for my english it's not my native language. I'm going to build my first delta 3D printer based on David's Kossel XL. I've got almost all main mechanical parts: extrusions, buildplate, heater, stepper motors etc. Now I'm waiting for the PCB effector to order it with electronics (Duet an so on). On the way to me is the Nimble extruder which I want to pair with the effector. Reading this thread I got sure that the adaptor from shapeways allow me to do that (obviously can't print it myself). But now I see that I need a new version of the adaptor. So it is a question. Can I order this new adaptor from shapeways right now or should I wait some time before this version will be available there? Thanks in advance.

Yes

That is a new one is the same as the old adaptor except it needs to use 7.4mm stands that I should make by myself?
-
it is quite a bit different to the old one although it may look the same and the stand offs can be purchased tho wether you will get 7.4 mm ones I am not sure but 10 would do you would just have to extend the PTFE Tube a bit further I think check ebay for standoffs.
Found some 8mm long ones here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M3-M4-M5-M6-M8-Nylon-plastic-spacers-standoff-washers/282477022050?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D757a377c307d47cf806cde39a5736fa8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D272505748740 you will also need some m2.5 screws and nuts probably around 20mm long screws should do I think

Thank you! It is just not obvious that the link points to a new version of adaptor as it looks much the same as the old one that I was ready to order before read las posts in this thread. So I will order this right now and if I got it right I can use standard bronze or plastic standoffs that used for PCB mounting. Thanks one more!

just hold off for a bit Lykle is still working on it with input from me as well.
He is adding the standoffs as part of the print we just need to get the hight correct first?

I think M3 screws make the job better. 2.9mm hole diameter is exact size of external dia of M3 thread so it seems that David chose this size for precize positioning with M3 screws, IMHO.

the fact that the PTFE Tube is locked in the bottom of the adaptor should locate it adequately
-
OK, after some work, and a nice discussion with Doug, I have wrapped up the design for the adapter.
It now features a nice set of integrated legs, 6.6 mm long as we want to make sure we do not bend the PCB when mounting the adapter. No idea if it will hinder the working of the sensor embedded in the PCB.
So the Shapeways model is now complete and ready.
The Thingiverse page holds the 2 models, the legless one and the legged one. (If you look at the adapter standing there you will realise why I am calling it the Grand Piano adapter)Shapeways http://shpws.me/OPLc

Precision could not be much. BTW I ordered the adaptor and it could be seen small feet on bottom of the adaptor onat the picture on the order status page. So it's possiblly no standoffs are needed.

yes indeed that is correct precise mount is important but the tube will locate it centrally anyway.

OK, you won. Your advices help me make another step building my delta so thanks anyway.

I think the Nimble is the way to go on a Delta, and after my aborted fiasco with the Distech Automation 2-1 effort im going with a nimble dual on my FT-5 too
I am impatient now !!!!!

Nice one Mark
Are you in Scotland?

I hav'nt included the part fan as I use the Berdair system
Dammit will you stop showing me all these nice pieces of kit, it seriously dents my wallet
That's the second time this forum cost me money, last time was showing the 20x40 kossel corners just after i had bought a 20x20 setโฆ..

https://duet3d.com/wiki/Smart_effector_and_carriage_adapters_for_delta_printer
on you wiki there are only instruction for duet board
could you confirm us that it will be compatible with smoothie or marlin? -
It's designed to be compatible with other firmwares. The big question is whether the sensitivity will be suitable. The x256 stepper drivers on the Duet give low vibration levels, allowing the sensitivity to be set quite high without vibration from the motors causing false triggering. This might not be the case if you use stepper drivers with lower microstepping.
The sensitivity can be adjusted by sending a serial bit stream to the effector. So if support for sending that is added to other firmwares, any possible problems with vibration could be overcome.
The effector also requires a short delay between the end of a travel move and the start of a probing move, however I understand there are versions of most firmwares with this facility now.

This all looks fantastic. Canโt wait to order!
1. Whatโs the thickness of the carriage adapters?
2. Are some kind of technical drawings of the effector available (mainly for hole positioning), so I can make an adapter for my hotend? Thanks
-
1. 2mm
2. I'll ask Tony to do some.
