Networking issue with ethernet
-
Does the ethernet port and Duet work when connecting directly between the Duet ethernet port and your computers port? Manually set an IP address on both that are within the same subnet and see if you can reach it then.
Does the network not had a DHCP server setup? Is it MAC filtering or something?
-
I don't have access to the printer, it is at one of our customer's facilities. The printer was tested during production and successfully connected to the network at our facility via ethernet. I'm an utter novice when it comes to networking, but I know one of our other enterprise clients needed the MAC address possibly for that reason. I will ask this customer if it's possible their network is MAC filtering.
On a side note, do you know if subnet and gateway parameters are saved once entered, or do they need to be in the config.g?

They should be defined in config.g

@Phaedrux That's what I thought.
Just heard back and the network is not MAC filtering.
Their network is showing the printer and they can ping the printer from the command line on their computer, but when trying to access DWC from a browser they get HTTP error 403.
-
403 means forbidden. I'm thinking that's on the network end.
What url are they trying to use to reach it? Is the browser trying to reach https:// or something?
Connecting directly between the duet and a PC would at least verify that it's still working on site.
Maybe the SD card is out?
-
@Phaedrux I'm thinking it's on the network end as well, but the IT person there doesn't seem to be able to figure it out either.
They said they tried http, https, and just the naked IP (i.e. xx.xx.xx.xx).
I'm assuming you're talking about connecting directly to the PC via ethernet? Do you know if there is a guide anywhere on how to do that that I could send to the customer?
The SD card is installed correctly. We have custom macros pre-installed and they said they saw those on the printer display.
-
Yes connect directly with an ethernet cable.
https://www.google.com/search?q=setting+a+manual+ip+address&oq=setting+a+manual+ip+address
followed by the OS in use should give an idea on how to set the PC end. On the Duet you'd set the static ip with M552 as usual.

@Phaedrux @droftarts Thanks for the help troubleshooting this with me!
I just got an email from the customer today, and it turns out the patch cable was overstretched and that was what was causing the issue.
-
Good to hear. That's strange though. Why would a stretched cable allow it to get an IP and be pingable, but cause it to give an 403 error. Bizarre. At least it's working now though.
-
@Phaedrux Yeah super strange!
