External Stepper Drivers Need 5V Logic
-
Hello all,
I'm looking into buying a Duet Board and a PanelDue to control my homebrew delta printer. My printer uses large 48V 7A closed-loop servo motors for the three towers, which have integrated drivers that work on 5V logic.

My questions are:- Do all Duet boards only have onboard drivers?
- If so, does it make sense for me to buy a Duet when I will only use 2 out of 5 or 6 onboard drivers for my extruders?
- Is it possible to output 5V logic for external stepper motor drivers?
Best,

Do all Duet boards only have onboard drivers?
presently, yes. there is a duet3 family without onboard drivers on the drawing board but nothing set in stone yet afaik.

imo, yes and no. maybe you can find a used board with defective stepper drivers?
Is it possible to output 5V logic for external stepper motor drivers?
yes

Duet3 and use a bunch of external driver expansion boards.

@bearer Thank you very much for your informative response. I will take all points into consideration and look around for Duet2 Wifi boards, which I would then pair with an expansion breakout board.
The excellent documentation and forum support are major reasons I'm looking at Duet3D products, so your quick response is a +1 there! -
@bearer Just purchased a Duet 2 WIFI, Duet Expansion Board, and PanelDue 7i through reseller Filastruder. Looking forward to the huge upgrade from my MKS SGEN board (and I'll be using the correct logic level now haha). Excited to be a part of the Duet3D family!
