Duet 3 - Multiple motors on one driver
-
Since the Duet 3 has higher amp drivers, is it now possible to have more motors on one driver? I’m trying to avoid buying an expansion board.
-
yes, in series or parallel.
this has always been possible
the duet2 had 2 connectors for the z stepper.
-
I’m experimenting with 4 motors on Z and worried about keeping them in sync. Was thinking 2 in series on each of the 2 ports. Thoughts?
-
4 motors for z is not optimal. 3 is better.

That on it's own won't necessarily keep them in sync. When they energize and de-energize they may move in different directions. A belt to physically lock them in sync or a separate driver for each to allow for independent movement and positional syncing with a probe is still optimal. And yes 3 points is generally better than 4 unless the bed frame is large and not rigid enough. 4 can still be brought into true, but it's not as easy.
