Duet 3 Mini 5+ : Initial announcement
-
@bearer sure, its just much neater if it can be done directly through the already existing SBC cable rather than having to make your own wiring loom.
-
@pixelpieper oh, then i missread your post, as adding UART to the SBC connector only requires to route the rx and tx pins to pin 8 and 10 on the existing 2x13 header
-
@bearer hence the suggestion to allow for this connection

@T3P3Tony Klipper could if someone implements it, direct UART communication is just already available and would simplify the implementation.
If you have the space to allow for a 2x2 header to be soldered in@pixelpieper then you might want to change the wording - asking for additional space for a 2x2 header isn't the same thing, and doesn't even achieve the goal of using the same 26pin ribbon cable without custom wiring loom.
-
@bearer @pixelpieper
Thanks - I understand. The 2x2 header would be a pair of jumpers so that the UART was not always connected to the SBC (for example if you wanted to use a PanelDue instead.
I will look at this as part of the next design review.
-
@bearer good point, I meant 2x2 in order to add jumpers to RX and TX
-
d'oh - brain is being slow...
if its talk of a unpopulated headed then solder bridges are smaller and easier to place?
-
So if I have a Duet2wifi with 1.68A steppers for X Y E0, Dual Z 1.68 steppers in serial, bltouch and Rotating Magnet Filament Monitor, I could go to this board without issue ?
-
@bearer either through bridges or by soldering in the header and adding jumpers to easily reverse it, I don't mind either way.

most likely quite soon, ref https://forum.duet3d.com/post/168488 (maybe i missread that too, I meant you could use existing board with klipper and sbc)
-
@pipersw You would probably use a separate driver for each Z, but yes.
-
Wow. This is going to be a release day purchase for sure. I love my Duet2 Wifi and have put RRF on my SKR boards because the Duet spoiled me so much with its ease of use.
I was reluctant to buy more Duets as I figured there'd be something like this coming soon. Can't wait. I'll take two!
-
Very excited about this with the three driver expansion board!
I've been deliberating what board I want to use for an upcoming project and the Duet 3 6HC was up there, although a little ott for my needs.
@gregsaun pointed out this upcoming board and it's actually a perfect match for the project. There is no longer any question as what board I'll be using -
100% all day
-
-
... that green PCB confused me for a second.
Exciting!
-
It's only green because green prototypes are sometimes faster to get made and delivered than blue ones.
-
@dc42 Want one for my Delta time it had an upgrade lol
-
So far, testing shows that the wifi upload speed is about the same as the Duet WiFi, and the Ethernet upload speed is a little faster than the Duet Ethernet.
-
@dc42 I assume that the SBC support is there as that would be the way I would want to run it failing that the ethernet one would be my choice TBH. Once it is available.
