Duet wifi and slicer progams

You can use Simplify 3D's post-processing console command area to run any console command, and therefore achieve an upload to the duet that way. I believe somebody on here has made a tool to do just that.

PE Slicer print's straight to the Duetwifi, https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/releases

I have had no choice but to run the duet 2wifi off of the usb it is the only way i can get any print to launch
If that method is not advisable or incorect ive been doing it wrong for a year. Must the duet 2 have the same name for the printer in the slicer software as the name of the printer i d on the dwc thats on the gcode??? Even if the i. P. Is the same it doesnt reconize the conrmyection
Here is the strainge thing if i unplug the usb the wifi conection between the laptop and the duet wifi interface work perfect
But lets say i try to home over the slicer comands in curra they dont pop up, the screen is just blank in curra. the add on just wont work im just baffeled at why ... any of the control commands do not pop up in curra at all like it doesnt see the printer ...it should be working
The only thing i can find is inconsistency between names in the slicer (curra) and the dwc -

Why don't you just use the Duet Web Control interface to interact with the printer?
The Cura plugin to upload and start the print on the Duet works great. But the Duet must have an IP address that does not change. If the IP changes, you must set up the connection in the plugin again.

Correct you have been doing it wrong for a year.
As has been already mentioned you would be much better off using the Web interface, as long as YOU set the duet up correctly then interaction via the web interface is a breeze, if you are struggling to set up the duet to use the web interface, might I suggest you read and digest the following.

The duet wifi interface works correctly on wifi its just curra that wont talk or send gcode to the duet, ip is corect and still no conductivity with the software..
There is no addon for materhackers slicer "matercontol "
It works fine on the usb.. my hope was to figuare out why curra is being such a pain and wont control movement or launch a print. it allso just doesnt see the dwc.. why im not sure why . Hence forth the qustion about names. again,, the gcode has e3 as a name for the dwc.. curra enters the name cr-10 thru the programing in curra software patch. My question was, if the i.p. is correct would my problem be in the names not matching between the dwc card. The curra addon. Curra currantly lists printer as looking for a cr-10. is it necessary for me to enter in the same name in both places or does it only work off of the i.p. address.
I'm sure that the issue is in curra NOT the duet card or if it functions on wifi... that it does flawlessly provided i use the wifi interface that the duet provides, hope this clears up "MY"confustion and what my question was. thanks ...Ed -
@ziggymanpopo it sounds like you're trying to
send an email to a fax machine over a local area networkdo something in a way which was not intended, and will not work.Take a step back. Evaluate what you are trying to do and why you want to do it with Cura. Evaluate if it's possible to do what you want with Cura (hint: it sounds like it isn't) and then re-evaluate your strategy from there.
-
@ziggymanpopo Have you installed the Duet RRF plugin for Cura?
I used to use Cura but use PrusaSlicer all the time now. Better at a lot of things and not too complicated.

Im confused because i thought that the addon for curra is design to do exactly what im doing. Connect the dwc to the curra slicer program. If its not for that then whats the adon for..??? Again my queston was spesific to must the names be the same or us it solely dependant on the ip address.. the spesific question is it paramount that the names on the dwc and the name on the slicer program printer..

Im refering to the name on the startup gcode
Or in my config.g file -
Also wouldn't the dwc normaly tranfer the signals back and forth over the esp and my laptop over my network at home. so im realy perplexed at bots remark ...am i seeing this wrong ? Or is it not possable at all to send g code to the printer over wifi
This make no sense to me.. please explain
What the pourpos of the wifi function just to have a csess to the card only ???? -
@ziggymanpopo : You have to see the duet as a standalone system, you cannot control the 3d printer from the slicer (which makes no sense).
You slice the 3d model with the slicer and you can upload the resulting gcode via a plugin to the Duet's SD card. Controlling the printer and starting a print is actually done from DWC. DWC is a webpage served by the duet so the only "interaction" between your computer and the Duet are only HTTP requests... -

Yes!
The Cura plugin allows you to send the sliced gcode file over to the printer directly from cura without having to save it to your computer and then upload it to the DWC to print. That's all.
Cura can control SOME printers over USB, mainly ultimaker printers, but not EVERY printer. It cannot control the Duet via USB terminal. Simplify3D can stream gcode over USB to the Duet, and so can Octoprint, but that's not a recommended way to use the Duet because the USB connection is very slow.
The main PURPOSE of the Duet wifi is that you can quickly upload a gcode file to the SD card on the Duet and print directly from it. It's an improvement over the old way of manually copying the file to the SD card and then printing from that, or by using USB to stream the gcode.

I understand"finally." Thanks guys
If my memory serves me right ..when i first bought it as a cr10-5s curra would communicate and move The printer thru the curra software, but with the usbso here is where i lost it
When the dwc was installed. That was no longer possable.
So i move my printer and write to the sd csrd thru the dwc. never the slicer.. just forget that that was with the original control cardAnd if i wish (but only) transfer a finished gcode file
Via curra (using the addon) ... to the dwc onto the sd card
Then launch the print ....Ultimatly i loose the printer controls via usb for curra... No biggie! just use duet wifi interface instead
Last... to understand the curra addon,,it only writes your choosen gcode file to the sd card in the duet via the wifi funtion and that is all it is capable of
Would that be correct?
