Instant Dead Duet 3 Help
-
I recently bought a Duet 3 and connected everything. When I was doing some calibration with the Y-Axis, the board instantly killed itself. Later I found out I only connected 3 out of the 4 pins on the Y-Axis motor. Now the motion system is dead and not responding to any command. In addition, the ethernet jack is also dead with a very fade yellow light. However, I can connect the board via YAT. Is there still any possibility for me to do some fix this?

Hmm, fishy.
- if the driver got damaged by only having 3 of the 4 wires connected the damage would likely be limited to the single driver.
- completely dead motion system might be because you're unable to home, although I'd expect it to try and home x
- ethernet really shouldn't be affected
- yat works; good sign
M122
is always interesting to see. - where did the 4th wire go, could it have shorted against somewhere on the board?
- are the fuses ok?
- which LED's are light up (with and without USB connected)
-
I check the two fuses and they are not blown. Currently, I don't have the tool to check the VSSA though. Yes, I can get M122 to work but some of the response is very weird. I also can't turn on any fans and heater in YAT too. I guess it is my fault to connect only 3 wires on the stepper motor driver but I never thought the consequences can be this severe.

The four wires directly go to a splitter and to two separate Y-axis motor. When I first try to move the Y-Axis, the axis jittered, it is at the second time the entire board just died.

if you used a multimeter to test the big fuses, you can do the same for the VSSA fuse, just measure the continuity acoss it on the board - BUT the VSSA fuse is only relevant for thermistors so no need to worry about it for now.
M122 does say both the 12v and 24v voltages are okay, given it works with YAT 3.3v must be okay, and it is derived from 5v so thats good news (if we trust the output).
Not sure what else to say; hopefully someone can provide more input. Meanwhile, see if you can't replace the pictures of the terminal with copying the text and pasting it here instead. put ``` on the line over and below all the text to make it nice and formatted (or select the text after pasting into the forum text editor and hit the </> button up on the formatting toolbar)

If the 4th wire was not connected but not shorting to anything, that won't have damaged the driver. If it was shorting to something, that may have caused damage depending on what the "something" was.
Are you able to read the SD card? Try sending commands such as M503, M20, M39. if config.g isn't being processed, that would explain why motors, heaters etc. don't work.

Yep, it turned out that the SD card somehow got reset and when I plugged it into my computer it required me to format it. Later when I copied the firmware, everything else worked! There are no drivers damaged. Thank you so much!
Here is a rough sketch about what happened when it erased the SD card.

@Ray11 Glad this wasn't terminal. Always a good idea to use keyed headers and plugs!
