Duet 3 Mainboard 6HC - initial production run.

@T3P3Tony Can we still use the link in the first post to order even though there might not be any available from the first run?
-
@gtj0 now just yet. I want to be able to say when the next batc will be available first
-
Tony is there any chance any more from this first batch will become available I know at least one guy who is desperate to jump on the band waggon. I seem to remember you saying you had kept some back to allow for failures during testing

I suppose there is no way to be notified when some stock is available? I have cash in hand for a D3 Mainboard, but missed the pre-order. I don't want to miss the chance to purchase on because I didn't check the website at the right time. So Doug told me to post a comment here as well.
Looking forward to this!

@Dougal1957 I expect we will do, will announce more next week.

Thanks I will point him to this.

Tell him to get to the back of the line.

It's a little hard to tell from the renderings and pics but can someone confirm that the 26 pin connector polarity notch faces in towards the MPU?

Did you see the new Wiki? https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/SBC_Setup_for_Duet_3
-
@bearer Yeah but you can't tell in those pics because the cable exits the IDC pins to the left (inwards) but then loops back through the strain relief towards the right and out. I can't see the notch.
-
@gtj0 I suppose its not given the notch is on the left hand side in those pictures although the red stripe indicating pin 1 would suggest that, which side the cable exits shouldn't affect pin 1 and the notch.
-
I've learned through bitter experience not to take for granted the relationship between the notch and pin 1. About 10 years ago I had a local company make me 100 10-pin cables and they didn't bother to follow my spec. Apparently 3 different people made the cables so I got 3 different orientations.
Anyway, I'm experimenting with different cable lengths and right now I'm getting great results with a 300mm cable at a 1MHz clock rate but only if I alternate the signal lines with grounds. In fact it still looks great at 5HMz. I was toying with using some twisted pair as well but twisted pairs aren't all that effective in unbalanced circuits.
-
@gtj0 the 26 way header notch goes in, towards the center of the Duet 3 mainboard. The Duet 3 has a keyed header.
-
Perfect. Thanks @T3P3Tony And what are you doing up so late?
-
Mine is here! Yay!
From reading this thread, and the new wiki, it is a little unclear to me if the included SD card is should already have an image on it. The one I received formatted, but empty. Installing the image now...
Edit update: Image installed, booted, connected via both Web and SSH, everything works just fine. Now, to pick a printer to receive this beauty...

Mine certainly had an image on else I would have been lost as I know very little about the way Linux interacts (I know a lot more now since I got this thing on Saturday)

Did the Duet 3 just get classified as a "gateway drug"?
-
@Danal it should have had the image, glad you got it working!
-
@T3P3Tony Have you guys tested to determine the maximum practical SPI clock rate the Duet3 can handle, irrespective of cable characteristics?
-
@gtj0 it is determined by cable length. With the cables we supply we expect at least 10Mhz will work well, Iam currently running 5Mhz with no issues and after TCT will try extended periods with 10Mhz.
The image comes with 1Mhz as a default - thats conservative but till allows for a high throughput.
