Limited service from me for 1-2 weeks

Just looked up the tct show. Is it open to private individuals or is it trade only?
-
@cncmodeller Anyone can go. It's generally best to register beforehand as that'll save queuing on the day you choose to visit.
-
Cool thanks I'll have a look. Is any specific day better to go?

@cncmodeller No not really. One day is as good as the next. They do a have a sort of stage with guest speakers so if there is someone you really want to listen too, pick that day. It's a big show - all about additive manufacturing so you can drool over over multi thousand pound Stratasys machines or come down to earth looking at RepRaps.
I guess now would be as good a time as any to say that the plan is for my (5 colour, 7 axis) machine to be on the Duet stand, hopefully with some sort of Duet Gen 3 boards and also hopefully, doing something useful with those boards.

Definitely with Duet 3 boards!

OK then, but I'll add ..........."which hopefully will be mounted in some sort of enclosures and hopefully will be neatly connected to the 13 stepper motors and other gubbins that my printer has", (because that bit is down to me)
-
Cool. Hopefully see you there

I hope its already wired and crimped for Duet, so you don't have to do all that by september:P:D

It is currently running Duet Ethernet plus Duex5 (with only 10 motors so either load balancing and 3 colour or no load balancing and 5 colour).
BUT. Apart from the extra stepper drivers, one of the main reasons for changing to Duet 3 is to simplify my wiring because I have 40 plus conductors going through a huge cable chain to my 5 (will be 6) extruder gantry and then down to the hot end gantry below. So the plan is to fit 2 expansion boards on the extruder carriage so that I only need power and data going though the cable chain. Also, the printer has to be partly dismantled for transportation (it's too big to fit through the doorway in my study where it lives). So I want to be able to easily connect and reconnect any wiring that needs to run between the two halves. Which means minimising the number of conductors running between them. Instead of Duet plus Duex5, I'll have a Duet gen 3 main board plus 3 expansion boards - none of which will be mounted where the current Duet/Duex5 are mounted.
All that means that every single part of the wiring will need to be changed. Even the PSUs, SSR, 240V bed supply, lights - everything. I'm doing as much as I can in terms of preparation but I need to keep my printer running. Oh and of course, once the hardware arrives and is installed, I'll need to re-configure everything and get my head around the new firmware. And I'll be out of the country for a week at the beginning of September. I suspect I could be burning some midnight oil but maybe you understand why I said "hopefully".
At least I have more time now that I am

Ouch! and a little yay, when the dust settles:)
I just rewired the whole cnc router, but thats peanuts in comparison.

looking forward to seeing what duet 3 can do -- I've had to alter the firmware a bit for duet 2 to be able to run 16 steppers -- in addition with my own hardware logic expansion board, would be interesting to see what duet 3 can bring. I might be able to run stock for a change
