Yes OTA is not high on the priority list and actually I would want to have a robust hash checking, URL verification etc put in place before that, something I need to read up more about.

Being able to send a compatible bundle of firmware all as one file, with upgrade (or downgrade) happening in the right order would have helped a few people who have got the webserver/firmware/DWC out of sync in the past though so that is slightly higher priority.

Servos are fully supported form firmware version 1.16 onwards, so I am marking this as answered.

I suggest you set up a macro that sets the bed temperature using M140, waits for it to stabilise using M116, then uses M300 and G4 commands to play a tune.

You're quite right, pause/resume does work OK when using absolute mode. Humble apologies for wasting your time.

Hey David, maybe you should clarify the description of the G1 command regarding the S options.
There is just delta setup mentioned to move tower motors with S2. A note that this will move the real axis on an IDEX setup would be helpful…

Yes I think a switch so as to not break the normal output might be useful, although I am not aware of anything that relies on the output of G31 directly there may well be.

It would be easier not to remove the second "complication" and keep the diagonal distance between the effector and the hanging extruder constant. Then the extruder motion would behave exactly like another carriage. Now that we have support for additional axes, this would be fairly simple to implement.

In practice, keeping the diagonal distance constant probably isn't ideal. When the effector is not below the extruder, the Bowden tube will bend into an S shape so the extruder should be a bit lower than the diagonal distance would imply. I think we can allow for that by configuring the "rod length" of the extra axis to be a little shorter than the Bowden tube length and then adding a Z offset.

There remains the problem of what to do during homing when the carriage positions are not known.

You can disable a fan by sending M106 P# I-1, then its control pin can be used as for general purpose output (M42) or a servo (M280). Caution: the polarity may not be what you expect.

If you disable a heater using M307 H# A-1 C-1 D-1 then its control pin becomes available for general purpose output (M42) or a servo (M280).

You're right, though, that the question is: what changes in the measured values cannot be accounted for with all the other parameters, but can be accounted for with tilt parameters? As long as there's something, they do provide assistance, but if most of their effect is soaked up by endstop offsets and tower position adjustments, then you're stuck with a highly covariant set of parameters. Even if the numerics can be made to behave, manual adjustment is going to be annoying. The worst case is if the effect on the z=0 plane is identical but the effect on print geometry is different; then you need both for accurate printing but you can't measure their effects by probing the bed.

I didn't know what in the g-code wiki is meant with: "non-trivial G-code response or error message".

thank-you only thing is one motor was working back to front quick power down and turn the motor wire around sorted it out but thanks for all the help
now to do some reading on tuning heaters
