Thanks guys for all your input. I've solved the problem. I had an automotive type relay installed between the PS and Duet that certainly did the job of taking the bed heater current drain off the board, but it was noisy as heck as it approached the set bed temp. Removed the relay and wired bed heater straight to the board...problem solved.

I have a 24v, 40w hotend. Can I safely connect to rg45 and cat6 cable? Amps of hotend is 1.6a.

red/gray: 2.4 ohm
measured directly on motor pins
rechecked at board ends.....no ohmage (sic).....bad crimps or break in wire someplace? -

@Veti yep, that's my stepper. i still cannot get the image of my board wiring to upload. both were jpg, taken at the same time. anyway, my stepper wiring at the board, from left to right is red, gray, yellow, green.
