Hi,
I'm interested in this post as I too am having some problems with pressure advance when doing small segments and I have turned it off until I can work out what is happening. It is great for large prints but have problems with small, fussy prints.
I have been through all the tabs in S3D but cannot find a setting for, 'speed of small perimeters'. Can you tell me where it is?

RE: Printing mirrored?
I don't know if you have solved this issue but my two pence worth. Take a look in S3D; goto 'Tools', 'Options' and open the 'Machine' tab. In the middle you have 'Flip build table axis'. If the Y axis is checked, uncheck it and if it is unchecked then check it. This will flip your your image and build the correct way round.

RE: Retraction on the fly
Thanks, Dougal, I had already worked that one out before I started a print! It would have been painstakingly slow.
However, I have noticed that I am now getting far more retractions than I ever have done before. On a circular part with three perimeters, my printer is retracting at the end of each perimeter - never done that before. Also, with far more retractions, some of them on ridiculously small moves, the accumulation of all the retractions, in a small space, is causing some problems immediately after and some areas of infill/surface are sparse.

RE: Retraction on the fly
Okay, thanks David. I will move the definition to the 'Start' code and have a play.

RE: Retraction on the fly
I am still confused.
In the tabs of the 'Process' I have unchecked 'Retraction', turned on 'Use M101/102/103' and added 'M207 S5 R-0.1 F60 T30 Z0; Set retraction parameters S - Length of retract, R - Extra length on re-start, F - Retract Speed in mm/min, T - Re-start speed, Z - Nozzle lift on retract.' to the Retraction Script.
The resultant g code has M103 and M101 but no values set. What am I doing wrong?
Here is a snippet of code:
G1 X-28.049 Y0.016 E0.0008
G1 X-28.005 Y0.000 E0.0023
M103
G1 X-26.577 Y0.000 F4800
M101
G1 X-27.885 Y-0.467 E0.0665 F1800
G1 X-27.894 Y-0.470 E0.0005 -
RE: Retraction on the fly
Do I simply uncheck the Retraction box under Ooze control and then add the M207 command to the script for retraction? If so, do I have to do this for all my processes in S3D?

RE: Retraction on the fly
And all three have been very useful, thank you.
I use S3D so now need to find out how to configure it.

Retraction on the fly
Hi,
Is it possible to alter the retraction distance on the fly? It would make it so much easier to fine tune the printer if I could. I have played about with pressure advance and concluded that, with my setup and bowden tube, I cannot find the sweet spot so I am reverting to retraction alone which has been working pretty well in the past. Not got it right yet hence my question.

RE: Upgrade to 1.19.2 pear shaped
Don't ask me why but I seem to have success!
I followed the instructions 'Connecting to your access point using firmware 1.19 or later' and downloaded the terminal program. Went through the process of SSID and Password and got the right response. I then went ahead with unplugging the USB and firing up the printer. Everything seems to be working just fine and it is reporting all the latest versions.
So, the big question is why did it hang when upgrading and never report it had succeeded?

RE: Upgrade to 1.19.2 pear shaped
Still struggling - when I connect to the computer and go into Device Manager the board shows up as 'Teensy USB Serial Com5'
It looks like I screwed up good style. -

After sending M552 S1 this is a snippet of the log:

RE: Upgrade to 1.19.2 pear shaped
The reason I had to remove the SD card from the Duet and load the files from my laptop is because when I plug the USB lead into the Duet I cannot see the SD card in File Explorer. Should I be able to see it?

RE: Upgrade to 1.19.2 pear shaped
Yes, followed the instructions but was a bit confused when dealing with the zipped files. I created the /www folder and unzipped the compressed download to it. However, I noticed that the www folder now had three zipped files in it. As there was nothing in the instructions about this, I presumed the firmware would look after this when upgrading. I then followed the rest of the instruction right up to the point of issuing the M997 S0:1 and at this point I got the message 'Updating firmware… Please wait while multiple firmware updates are being installed.' This message appeared 6 times, one under the other on my screen. And I waited to no avail.

Upgrade to 1.19.2 pear shaped
Hi,
Just tried upgrading to 1.19.2 and got as far as submitting M997 S0:1 I then got the screen shown in the image and then I waited. How long should this take? One and a half hours later I decided to abort and now all I get is 'This site cannot be reached'
I uploaded all the files onto the SD card on my laptop.
I don't seem to be able to attach an image!!!!

RE: Pressure Advance
Thanks, Sniffle, that's just the information I needed.

RE: Pressure Advance
Thanks, DC but what is the effect of too much or too little pressure advance? I have mine set to 0.1 and results are pretty good but if I tweak it one way or the other, what should I expect to see?

Pressure Advance
Can someone explain what the perceived results are from changing the S value in pressure advance. I am starting with a value of 0.1 on my Kossel Pro and I have reduced my retraction and my prints are very nearly perfect but I was wondering which way to change the value, higher or lower, to get the best results. I understand the theory but want to know what I should be looking for if I change it either way.
Thanks.

PA and extruder noise
Hi,
Just about getting my upgraded Kossel Pro dialed in. I have just printed a 3DBenchy and it has come out really good in PETG. I was using relative extrusion, pressure advance set to 0.1 and I reduced my retraction from 5mm to 3mm. Printing was very impressive and clean but I noticed my extruder was clicking quite a lot. I am using a BondTech, geared extruder (the best in my opinion) and I am assuming the clicking is from the gearbox as the pressure advance is commanding rapid reversals in direction. Although this is not too concerning at the moment, I wonder whether it will have any detrimental effect over a long period of time if I continue to use PA?
