@mrehorstdmd Thank you to clearify. 09 has the disadvantage for me to replace everything. But for higher tension it may be woth it.

I do not see any difference in print quality between the no-name belts and the Gates belts, but rubber dust doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the long-term viability of the no-name belts.
At the time of purchasing these belts I did not have any clue of what I was doing. By now I know that whenever I have to replace a belt I will also switch to a genuine Gates one. Even if it is just to get rid of the dust.
@JoergS5 When I switch to Gates belts, I will purchase these. From all I know these really seem to be genuine Gates although coming from Hong Kong.

@wilriker I am sure this puffy rice tastes very good
Thanks for the hint.
-
@wilriker Well soon I will be able to tell you if those Wantai 42BYGHM810 are any good. I checked and ruled out everything but steppers, so I ordered these.
-
@obeliks I have to admit I miss a little bit of reference of what problem you are trying to solve.
I thought about these motors now for a while. My largest uncertainty is the difference in motor length compared to what I currently have. Since I use dampers on the motors these additional 8mm could be a problem for at least Y axis as my holder for the heated bed has a rather small cut-out for the motor.
But then again, motors are probably not going to be the very next thing to exchange, so lots of more time to think about it.
-
Heh, don't worry about it.
I just wanted to say I will be able to report soon. -
@obeliks What I am very interested in is the question if these motors will have an audably different noise level and if so in which direction.
-
I will measure before and after.
-
@obeliks Cool, thanks! Looking forward to the results of that. Because if they are more silent, guess what's next on my to-do list.
-
First thing, package was here in 3 working days and it came from Germany.
Now the big problem (maybe?), the shafts have no flat spot. At all.
Second small problem, the leads are short. -
@obeliks No flats is no big problem - all you need is a file. The shafts aren't usually hardened so it's easy to do.
-
@deckingman Ah, not hardened, OK then. Thanks.
I haven't even tried, I'm just from the vacation. The good thing is that next week I'm still at home. -
@obeliks Yes it's dead easy to do. I've filed flats on all 10 of my motors.

Yeah, Wantai has a European warehouse in Hamburg here in Germany. So, if you ordered from their "EU Stock" it'll come from there.
-
Results are in they are about 5dB quieter and 5°C cooler than stock A8 steppers
Also, it seems I am melting. -
@obeliks Definitely sounds great! At what settings do you run them?
-
Just like on A8 steppers 50%, so 1200mA in case of Wantai.
The loudest ones are Z-axis, but that is related to M5 leadscrew. -
Just wanted to say thank you for your build log.
I went a very similar route to you, started with an Anet A8 and am now left with a box full of spare bits that looks suspiciously like an Anet A8 (Only thing left is the stepper motors and guides)...
The Duet was a bit of a pain to configure after using Marlin but the first test benches turned out like a dream with your settings.
So thanks again!

I'm glad that this helped you.

@OBELIKS Can you measure the length of your Anet stock steppers? I just measured the length of the newer 0.9A steppers and they are not 40mm but only 37.3mm long.
So compared to the 48mm long Wantai steppers (would you be so kind to measure their length as well?) that is an extra of over 10mm and I have a feeling that I will not be able to fit them everywhere.
