CR10 turned duet, board no longer communicating with desktop
-
So I have bee rebuilding a Creality CR10 with a Duet Mini 5+, after using the rf config tool, and after I attempted to upload anything in Pronterface, the upload did nothing and now the board no longer connects to or is recognized by my computer. The lights come on the board when plugged in, but my computer no longer recognizes it, even after trying multiple USB cables. I also have a paneldue 5 if there is a way to go around through that.

@BrokenThistleForge Check Fallback Procedure #2 for recovery of the board

@BrokenThistleForge What were you trying to upload via Pronterface? Usually, once the initial connecting is done (as described here: https://docs.duet3d.com/en/How_to_guides/Getting_connected/Getting_connected_to_your_Duet) you connect to the Duet over your network, using a browser.
Most likely, the firmware has been erased. But check through this guide that everything is okay with the board: https://docs.duet3d.com/User_manual/Troubleshooting/Duet_wont_respond
If the firmware has been erased, follow @oliof's advice above.

@oliof did that and it did nothing. Tried all 8 cpu usb ports, and 4 different cords. I think its something wrong with the actual USB slot on the board, because its getting power from the cord (not main power) and the light goes dim and then bright over and over like it should when I push the reset button. But nothing changed.

@droftarts the firmware after I did the configuration setup in rfr.

@BrokenThistleForge said in CR10 turned duet, board no longer communicating with desktop:
the light goes dim and then bright over and over
The firmware has been erased, and without firmware the Mini 5+ won't be recognised on USB.
the firmware after I did the configuration setup in rfr.
Don't use Pronterface to upload firmware or files, it doesn't work. Don't follow guides that aren't for Duet and/or RepRapFirmware.
Sorry, I didin't notice in your first post you said Duet 3 Mini 5+. You don't update the firmware on a Mini 5+ by using Bossa (the link @oliof posted). The Mini 5+ uses a different, "easy" method to update firmware when it has been deleted: see https://docs.duet3d.com/User_manual/RepRapFirmware/Updating_firmware#duet-3-mini-5-wifiethernet
- Connect the Duet to a PC (Windows, Mac or Linux) using a USB cable
- Press the Reset button twice quickly in succession. The Status LED should cycle slowly between dim and bright. This indicates that the bootloader is active.
- A new Mass Storage device should appear on the PC (like a USB drive). Open this in Windows Explorer.
- A directory listing of this mass storage device should show three virtual files. File CURRENT.UF2 is the existing firmware on the Duet.
- Download the
Duet3Firmware-Mini5plus.uf2
from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/3.5.3 - Copy the new
Duet3Firmware-Mini5plus.uf2
file to the mass storage device. - The Status LED will flicker as the firmware is being written, then the Duet will reboot using the new firmware. The mass storage device will disappear from your PC and the Duet 3 COM port will appear.
Please then follow the 'Getting connected' guide to get your Duet connected to the network, and use DWC (Duet Web Control) to control the Duet, not Pronterface. See https://docs.duet3d.com/en/How_to_guides/Getting_connected/Getting_connected_to_your_Duet

@droftarts I have already done all of that, and the board is not being recognized. I have tried all 8 cup usb ports, and 4 different cables. The light is blinking quickly from dim to bright when I press the reset, and nothing shows up on my computer.

@BrokenThistleForge I understand you have been in touch by email, and offered a replacement under warranty. While you wait for the replacement, it would be good to try and work out how this happened.
Please could you describe exactly what you did in Pronterface? You said you tried to upload the firmware. How? Is there a menu option? Which version of Pronterface are you running? On Windows? It was working before you did this? Were you following a guide to do this?
When you say the board is not recognised, is that after you have pressed the Reset button twice quickly, to put the board into USB mass storage mode? Or does that part work, and it is after that that it is not recognised? If you could be specific, and describe what happens at each step, it would be helpful.
If you think the USB port is damaged, please take a close up picture of the back of it, where it is soldered to the PCB, and post it here. Though I would find it odd that it stopped working after communicating with the board, rather than after a physical or electrical problem.
