DIY wire sheathing/insulation

You may want to do some hot glue over the end of the braid before you heat shrink, like @deckingman mentioned.
Just to clarify, I suggested using glue lined heat shrink rather than glueing the braid separately. This type of heat shrink has a hot melt glue coating on the inside of the tubing. So when heated, it both shrinks and melts the glue.

@deckingman
That sounds good, I didn't even know that. -

I didn't even know that was a thing.
What a great idea!

And what's so funny about wrapping up my pet snake in a cable sleeve ? ...

@nightowl @gnydick there is also spiral cable wrap like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wrapping-Organizer-Durable-Sleeves-Computers/dp/B08CV4F7RX typically found in black or transparent. This can be wrapped around wires in-situ.
-
@dc42 I use that stuff at work, its great for short runs but a nightmare on longer stuff, also be warned don`t use it on moving wiring it will eat though your insulation!
-
@jumpedwithbothfeet I use it to tie the two multicore cables going to the effector of my sets to the Bowden tube. No problems with it cutting through insulation yet, however the type of spiral wrap I use is quite soft.
-
@dc42 I imagine that's a pretty straight path to the effector with not many turns or bends? still I would keep an eye on it, I`ve seen vibration alone make it chafe through the insulation but then that was the thicker style of spiral wrap
