Eccentric Probe on a Delta Printer
-
Hello to all.
I am thinking about resurrecting my Anycubic Kossel Linear Plus with a Duet board. But I would prefer to reuse a Superpinda sensor that I have at hand as a probe. Obviously this can only be mounted eccentrically (around 30mm X Offset and 20mm Y Offset). I have tried before using Marlin and Klipper but despite all the Delta Calibration and Z offset calibration routines being completed successfully, the first layer is rubbish, being too thin at one side and too thick at the opposite. Of course I have correctly accounted for the X and Y offset in the configuration files.
My question is: Is an eccentric probe a VIABLE OPTION for a Delta? Can I do Delta Calibration automatically with the SuperPinda or doing it manually with a paper grab test is my only option?
I know a eccentric probe causes problems with effector tilting, but I had hoped it could be compensated by the software.

@ignacmc an offset probe doesn't cause effector tilt but is affected by it. The issue you'll have is you don't know how much the effector is tilting at each point so my advice would be use a removeable probe that sits below the hotend on X0 Y0.

@jay_s_uk A removable probe that sits below the nozzle came from factory with the printer....but after getting used to inductive sensors with my Prusa Mini, I would like to replicate it on a Delta...definitively it cannot be done? I believe that Tevo Little Monster and others (FLSun?) use eccentric probes (BLTouch). And i suppose it works for them.

@ignacmc as i say, i wouldn't advise it. you're just entering a world of pain for no gain. i wouldn't touch any delta that installs an offset bltouch

@jay_s_uk Noted! I would like to know the experience of a BLTouch Delta Printer owner just for curiosity....

@ignacmc Honestly..i started with a Anycubic Kossel too many years ago..if you want to invest a duet board into that printer...do it right and take also the Smart effector. beside the fact that you are mostly bound to the V6 hotends its still the hottest sh** for a Delta Printer...no offset in probing...and no thinking about Z-Offset after a nozzle change

@arnold_r_clark Thanks Arnold...your very clear explanation adds to jay's one...I think is time for getting another SmartEffector. Or doing fully manual calibration with the nozzle tip ignoring the inductive sensor...

@barracuda72 I already have a Predator set up that way (Duet3 Mini 5+ with Smarteffector) and perfect so far!

@ignacmc Iām using a Super Pinda on an Anycubic predator. I use it solely for z datum.
When Iām calibrating Iām using a fsr nozzle probe. It works great that way.Due to the offset and effector tilt I would strongly advise against using it as the only z probe.

Thanks to everybody for your time and suggestions. You have made this issue crystal clear to me
Wonder why some manufacturers still ship deltas with bltouch....
