RRF3 Mixing extruder across expansion boards
-
Hello,
I am planning an upgrade for my printer to use a D3Mini with the 2+ and toolboards to make it a toolchanger. One of the tools will be a cyclops, so I will likely have one extruder on the Mini2+ and one on the toolboard, with some mixing ratio between them. It will be a bowden setup so the toolboard will be static.I don't think this falls into any of the firmware limitations listed on the wiki, but just wanted to double-check as it may not be a common use case. I will need to think about where to hookup filament monitors etc (if I use them for this tool).
Thanks -

ThanksI'm using a 6 input "mixing" hot end with 3 extruders each connected to one of two 3HC expansion boards. The 6HC main board has UVA and B axis motors and a further 3HC expansion board has XY and Z axis motors. So on that basis, you should be fine unless there are any limitations specific to the mini and tool boards, but I can't think of any reason why there should be.

No worries. After battling firmware limitations with expansion boards (some documented and others not) for around 2 years, you were wise to check. Things are much better now than they used to be.
