5-axis styrofoam hotwire cutter?
-
Hi guys,
there are some interesting threads about 5-axis 3D printers, but I haven't seen anything for hotwire cutters? In the past I used to cut RC-model wings and fuselages (from styrofoam or EPP) with a manual guided hotwire. There were some CNC machines too but they could only cut straights. Too expensive for what they could do.
What if we had a 5-axis hotwire cutter with adjustable wire length (*), that works on a rotating 'Steward' platform? (or other fancy Table-dance mechanic)
We could cut 'low-poly' parts of almost any shape in no time. Much faster than a CNC mill or 5-axis printer, I guess?
Those low-poly parts can then be refined further with a mill (sitting on the same machine?) if necessary.
*) the wire length would stay the same, but the tool head would use adjustable rollers to reduce the active length.I'll put that on my wishlist amongst all the other projects, I'll never finish
