Several small issues culminating in a non-responsive board.

I started working with the mini 3+ last week, I've been trying to ensure I'm not the cause of my issues and to be honest at this point all I know is the board is unusable.
It started as soon as I first plugged it in, it seemed to have intermittent serial port connectivity issues, disconnecting randomly for example. I changed cables and computers more that once until it seemed to stabilize in a certain configuration and I was finally able to get the network configured.
This is where things really started getting difficult and confusing, once i gave it 24v and properly configured the config.g file it would never fire up with the network enabled unless the USB cable was also connected. I must have tried rebooting the device 145 times before I just accepted I must be missing something simple or I'm plain dumb and attempted to reset it or something by connecting to the serial again.
While attempt to connect to the USB there is nothing there anymore. multiple cables, computers and USB hubs to the same result. I was unable to see any kind of device on that USB connection ever again.
Frustrated I walked away yesterday only to return today to a single red light on the board when I plugged it in and nothing else with no connectivity to serial or DWC, I seem to remember at least 3 maybe 4 lights on yesterday, again just a single red light on 12v now.
Fuses are good, no obvious damage or smells, just a non-responsive board.
Do I have any options at this point to get it going without an RMA?
I feel like I have a delinquent unit with power issues but I'm not entirely writing off any personal culpability if unsure how however.
For context I am a software/firmware developer who builds downhole tools for the oilfield so I know my way around a circuit board generally.
Please advise ?

Can you show a photo of the LEDs on the board when connected to VIN and again when connected to VIN and USB? Or is it just the single 12v LED now?
Photos of the top of the board may show a bad component.
It kind of sounds like there might be a problem with the 5v regulator.
Does anything change with the SD card removed?
When and where did you purchase the mini5?

@Phaedrux sorry for the late reply as I recently ordered a new full size board and have been working to bring it online.
Included are the images you requested, one with only VIN power and a single red light, one with USB power and multiple lights. I have no serial port available on the USB nor a network port so unable to do any further testing.
Inserting a SD card has no visual effect.
Card was purchased from Spool3D in Canada invoice # 210702197.
I've got only the heaters left to get my 6HC operational and so far its been a dream, that mini was my nemesis from the moment it arrived.
Since I no longer need it, I would be more than happy to forward the board to you for further testing.

Please contact your vendor and initiate a warranty exchange and include a link to this thread as authorization. Since you've already purchased a 6HC as replacement I'm not sure what their policy would be on refund versus exchange. That would be up to them.

Thank you very much.
