Would it be helpful to split out CNC specific queries to their own category?

I don't think it'd hurt, and with the way it looks like Duet 3 is going, it could see a bigger share of CNC coming this way.
For me personally though, it won't really affect me, I just browse the forum under "All Categories". Though potentially as things grow bigger, that may change.

@t3p3tony I think it would help! Just think of a newcomer trying to go through the existing discussions when most of them are FDM specific. Having separate categories for CNC and laser cutting would help a lot, maybe even reducing the amount of required support.

I think it will be easier for new comers to the firmware.
Duet 3 will draw more CNC's with it's new flexibility for sure.
