PrintNC CNC router with duet3D
-
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about building the PrintNC DIY CNC router and wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with it. If you've built one, I'd love to hear about your experience using Duet hardware with the machine. Specifically, I'm curious if the Duet3 Motor23 CL closed-loop steppers would be a good option for this build. I've always wanted to experiment with closed-loop steppers, but I've never had a project where they seemed necessary. What do you think of these motors for the PrintNC?

@mike_b I've built a printNC and ran it with RRF.
I just used the original kit motors with external drivers however I think the M23CLs would be a good fit for that machine -
@jay_s_uk awesome, I guess I'll pull the plug and go for it. Thanks!

I just watched Christoph Lehners PrintNC build videos, which are quite funny because he shows the insanity of his approach.
OTOH it inspired me to build one, too since I already have the Makita router (60€ clone)... (just kidding)

@jay_s_uk just curious, any limitations on the spindle/VFD I should be watching out for when using a duet3 board?

@mike_b modbus/RS485 support is coming in 3.6 so make sure it has support for that. I had a Huanyang VFD on the printNC with a 2.2kw watercooled spindle. That was ok.
On the Milo Mill I have now, that has a Shihlin VFD and 1.5kw air cooled spindle -
@jay_s_uk thanks again, this is super helpful!

@o_lampe did you build one with duet3 hardware?

@mike_b I ran mine on a BTT board with external drivers running RRF
