CoreXY AB motor running hot at idle
-
I have a Voron 2.4 and one of my AB motors is running hot when on Idle hold. One motor is at 35C, and the other is at 55C. I tried two different sets of motors, and its the motor plugged into driver 0. The motor seems to operate normally otherwise. Where should I start troubleshooting and what's the potential cause?

@ctilley79 I just checked the drivers themselves and all 6 are cool to the touch.

@ctilley79
do they both have the same current setting (amps) for each at idle? -
@ctilley79 It's a little strange that one motor is warmer than the other but 55deg C is nothing to be concerned about. How are you measuring the temperature? Also when are you measuring the temperature - i.e. after running a print or homing move or simply after turning the machine on? As someone else has asked, are the motor currents the same for both motors? Do they have the same motor mounts and the same amount of free air around them? If you have plastic mounts, I'd highly recommend changing them to aluminium as heat will be conducted into the frame and they'll run much cooler (although this doesn't explain why one would appear to be warmer than the other).

@deckingman Motor currents are identical, and I measure with two very precise methods. My hand, and a laser thermometer. This is after homing when the machine is idle, but motors still engaged and on hold. It's strange it's happening with only one motor. When the machine goes into idle, the motors cool to room temperature.

@ctilley79 Whist I don't think it's anything worth getting too excited about, it is a little odd. What happens when running a print? Are they both roughly the same temperature?

firmware version?

@Phaedrux One that you don't support lol. I've got Klipper running on this board for the time being. Since it's a legitimate Duet 6HC I was mainly interested how I could troubleshoot any hardware issues. Since it's happening with two different sets of motors from different brands makes me think it's not anything specific to the stepper motors. In klipper, all configuration options are the same for the two motors.

I'd be curious to see if it's still the case with RRF3 running on it.
