UV Cure Controller - UART, Bytes? Where to start?

Hello,
I'm trying to control a UV cure light with a Duet 2.
Idea is to use Gcode in the 'Start Gcode' to set the exposure level as I test different UV-curable materials (syringe printer).
The controller is a Dymax QX4 - PDF linked. Pages 25-30 are of interest.
Is there a way to send bytes (bits?) to the Dymax using the Duet?
So far i've seen M118 and M672 (z-probe programming) as possible options, but my knowledge of serial communications = 0, so any advice is appreciated!
