Dead Duet2?
-
So i've had a strange issue with my Duet2 Wifi after updating to 3.4.0rc2+2 where the extruder seemingly won't unretract or extrude at all for some reason (it extrudes some times, and others not).
I checked the sliced job first to check that it was any G11's and there was. Checked my firmware reatraction settings, and they were correct. Then i thought it might be a loose wire or something else so i went on checking out the hardware side of things:I tried to power down the printer and disconected the wires going to my external stepper driver (on the driver end), flipped the switch back on and measured the 3.3v line from the duet that measured 3.2v (guess that's within acceptable tolerance?). Also checked the other wires, all good. Powered down the printer again, re-conected everything and flipped it back on. Noticed the hotend fan is constantly on (fan1) themostaticaly controlled by the heater temp to turn on at 45c, BUT the fan for driver cooling is of (fan2) that's also supposed to turn on at 45c. Weird, so i moved my head to the front of the printer to look at the PanelDue which just say connecting in the top right corner.
Jumped on the computer and tried to connect to DWC, no connection. Went back to the printer and saw that the LED on the wifi module was off, and the then saw that the 5V indicator led was somewhat dim compared to the VIN and 3.3V led. So i tried measuring the 5v (measured on the paneldue output) and it was 4,6V.
So yeah, dead board?

Have you tried going back to 3.3 to see if it's actually related to the firmware update and not just a coincidence?
If it doesn't show up as a USB device see what you can do here

@phaedrux I'll try to see if i can get it to respond through USB tomorrow. But i think the constantly running fan is a little omnious

3,3V & 5V LED's are on, but it won't show in device manager, AND the DIAG LED is permanently on.
I've pulled out the SDcard and thrown it into the PC, it shows up and all content is there (readable and not corrupted).
So i guess the next step is to do a hail Mary and try a full erase, not really surprised if it's borked at this point lol. (Not blaming the firmware just to be clear ).
-
It sounds like it's just missing firmware. Go through the erase and flash procedure with Bossa and see if it comes to life.
-
About to try that now, but just before i do that. Is 4,38V good enough? This is measured on the GND and 5V connector for the PanelDue (with the PD disconnected).

@exerqtor said in Dead Duet2?:
Is 4,38V good enough?
I'm not sure. The PD screen lights up though, right?
-
Yup it does, i've disconnected it now when i'm trying to resurrect the card though.
Can't seem to get the card to show up in device manager ( one device without correct driver shows up / dissapears when i connect/disconnect the usb though). Running windows update on the laptop now to see if that helps, or else it looks like I will have a new table coaster.

Nah that driver didn't work, allready tried that =/

My guess is that something got shorted out when doing your initial checks. Do you see any scorch marks on the board?
-
@phaedrux
yeah i'm leaning towards that too, I've only done a quick look for shit stains and couldn't see any. Haven't dissasembled the board and checked the backside etc. yet though. Gonna fully update the old beater laptop first before i pull out the board and give it a closer look.Anywhere specific i should be looking given the symptoms it's displaying?

It sounds like the CPU took a hit. You may see a spot on the chip, maybe not.
-
@phaedrux
Well in that case i will have some spares sans a CPU
