6HC power selection
-
I'm trying to figure out the power selection scheme for the 6HC. I'm running a PnP machine; 32V for the on board motor drivers and the balance of the in/outputs are 24V. Plainly, can OUT 4-6 and OUT 7-9 be sourced 24V by OUT 0 if;
a, POWER IN = 32V
b, OUT0 POWER IN = 24V
c, LOW CURRENT OUTPUT VOLTAGE INPUT is set to V_FUSED <-> V_OUTLCxI've read the docs over and over and the following is confusing;
"The two banks of Low Current outputs (OUT4-6, OUT7-9) can be separately selected to be powered by either VIN or internal 12V. Total 12V fan current draw must not exceed 800mA."What is VIN? Is it just POWER IN as seen in the diagram?
I wont have the 6HC until Monday so I cant just ohm it out. Is there a more comprehensive schematic for the board?
Thanks Wayne

Do you have this diagram?
VIN = POWER IN
OUT 4-6 and OUT 7-9 can be 12 volts or V_FUSED (which is just VIN with a fuse).

@wayneosdias vin is Voltage IN so whatever your power source voltage is that is the voltage supplied, so in your case it’ll be 32v

@jumpedwithbothfeet Thanks Ill use a buffer board then.
@fcwilt Yes that's what I'm referring to. Using V_OUTLC to refer VIN vs V_OUT doesn't make a lot of sense to me. A functional connection diagram would be very helpful. -

The source of V_OUTLC1 and V_OUTLC2 are determined by the jumpers OUT 4-6 and OUT 7-9.
Depending on the jumper settings the source is either V_FUSED (VIN via a fuse) or 12V - thus the need for the names V_OUTLC1 and V_OUTLC2.
Here is a link to the 6HC schematic:

@fcwilt THANK YOU! The schem answers all questions.
For my app I will drive an off board FET driver board via V_OUT's set to 12V. -
I Rec'd the 6HC and in the interim thought to myself why could'nt I just run 32V to the VIN and power my switched peripherals using and off board power supply. Tie +24 PS to the + of the peripherals (several pumps) and the - to the 6HC ground and just use a low side drive from the 6HC.
We'll I wired it up and it works, but theres two issues. First, regardless of 6HC IO state, the IO LED is on 2nd the V differential between the PS and the 6HC. Second, during power down, the 6HC discharges at a different rate than the peripheral power supply which causes the pumps to surge momentarily. These are annoyances but the practical functionality is sound. Is there any other reason such as potential damage or component failure from doing this?
Im just curious if its ok to run things on the bench like this before I button things up. When I do button things up I'll use FET drivers for end use. I did patch in a FET driver board to make sure everything operated well, which it did without the above annoyances, but the board is opto isolated and switching freq is limited to 1K. Im testing pump performance at the 16-20khz. Once I have things sorted ill use non isolated gate drive FETs.
Thanks
