issues with my new board and old board
-
just got my duet2 wifi in the mail and was going to plug it in Via USB to connect it to yat for initial WIFI connection and Blue smoke came out the board i smelled smoke and powered off the board by unplugging the USB
... checked my USB voltage and its fine
...tested port by plugging in a digital charger to a fossil watch which runs off USB port
..plugged in a rc car ESC programing module and it works with no issues
...DOA from arrival?my previous Duet2 ethernet just fails to show signs of life, working fine since February of 2021 and just in the last week of December it failed to boot up and i can't even pull the Board up on YAT (yet another terminal)... does not show that the usb is connected when physically it connected using the wire that was provided in the box originally
---check all my items on the 3d printer for damage or cuts
---checked my psu and i am getting 24Volts dead on...
---checked all my stepper motors on my friends 3d printer which runs the same setup and they work with no issues..
--checked all my wires and all show correct and the connectors are solid
am at a loss of words right now 2 boards dead a money losti dont have a micro SD card reader that plugs into the computer to be able to pull the config file but i know it was dialed in for that 3d printer

Did you have USB and VIN connected at the same time?
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/USB_ground_loopsCan you post some detailed close up photos of the board? Do you see any damaged chips?
-
@phaedrux funny how you mention that article.. that is one of the first things i looked up and was able to rule out because before anything i had the board on my bench with no connections from the power supply just the cable that was in the box and that was it. the puff of smoke came from the upper right hand corner of this picture right under the Z axis plug in i didnt even get to mount this product all i was trying to do is set the Wifi connection to it so i can get started !

Maybe so, but it's hard to miss a crater like that. Yikes.
When and where did you purchase the Duet Wifi?
For the Duet Ethernet, have you gone through this yet?

@phaedrux great minds think alike .. went through the process and the ethernet based board showed no signs of life... bossa was downloaded and it didnt auto detect the board or anything..
wifi board was purchased through matterhackers here in the US on december 24th 2021 late in the night arrived on december 31st 2021

What LEDs are lit on the Ethernet board? Did you use the firmware wipe jumper? You'll need to do that to get it to show up as a bossa port.
For the wifi board,
Please send an email to warranty@duet3d.com and CC your reseller. Include a link to this forum thread and the details of your original purchase. You'll receive a reply with a form to fill out. -
@phaedrux.. that is the thing when i plug in the USB board with the factory provided cable i get no lights no Signs Of Life... i took it out of the 3d printer so no PSU no other connection to the board...bossa software doesn't even pick up the com port that its plugged into.

Do you notice any damaged chips on the ethernet board?
Have you checked the fuses? -
@phaedrux checked the fuses they all check out, all visual inspections check out
-
@phaedrux so update on the ethernet board one.. checked the fuses and any physical damage and nothing is damaged that i can see.. ran a multi meter on the fuses and they check out....
-
Does anything get hot to the touch on the ethernet board? No LEDs at all?
-
@phaedrux i have been looking over the board and replaced the fuses and swapped out memory card and checked the board for over temps.. got it to fire up but now i get error short to ground on all X Y Z axis connections... and like i have mentioned before i have tested the motors and they are all good.. so i get signs of life but something is fried i just don't know how

Something bad happened and the zappy bits when to the wrong place.

@phaedrux polarity was correct i have it marked as per the diagrams that matterhackers offers so electricity should of gone through the right way
