fallback procedure #3 is nowhere to be found?
-
I am trying to get my duet wifi 2 working. I have had it sitting on a shelf for about 2 years as it seemed so complicated. I have finally got a weekend free. and I cannot understand how to even update it.
It is not clear from the guide what it is I have to do. This
video and some other posts on this foram talk about "fallback procedure #3"
https://youtu.be/eW1l8QTkCyI
but there is only #1 and #2 on the website now. with no explanation what happened to 3. Is it best to follow the "Usual procedure"? and if so is there any list of steps to take? There is a line in the instruction page that says "See Upgrading to 1.19 or later on the Legacy firmware update instructions" yet this is not a link and there is no mention of Upgrading to 1.19 or later at any other point on the page.
I feel Like I am way out of my depth on something that I thought would be the easy part.
Just to be clear. I am hoping to find a way to get:
Duet 2 Wifi/Ethernet FIRMWARE_VERSION 1.21
ELECTRONICS: Duet WiFi 1.02 or later + DueX5 FIRMWARE_DATE: 2018-03-21updated to the point where I can follow the rest of the set up instructions.
Is there any what to do this?Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ok I am obviously not great at searching the forums as I did not even see they were divided into topics until I tried to post this. Now I have seen. https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/18962/firmware-not-updating/4?_=1624395230908
Which seems to get the the point that I didn't understand before. I need to jump through all the intermediate updates before I can go to the final update.
I am still confused though it say
"First batch of files to upload:"Upload how? do I just drag them all onto the sd card? or is there some uploading that needs to be done in some way? do I delete the sd card first? If if copy all the stuff on the sdcard to my computer, and it all goes wrong will I be able to just copy it back and fixt it like that?
Thanks again for the help

OK one final reply as I seem to be just making things more complicated than they actually are.
I now understand that Uploading files, means through the web interface on the duet board. This is under the system menu, but moves around a little through the updates. So once you have that you can follow the instructions in the link above very easily. If after any upload one or more of the files fails to upload correctly, you can just try a second time and it usually works fine. if they upload successfully, the web interface will offer to update for you, if it doesn't they you can try sending M997 S0 if there are errors you can try to reupload again. After a few tries this always worked for me

@jasperg are you able to connect to your Duet? Are you connecting via USB, or have you got past that and have it connected to your network, and can connect to Duet Web Control, via a browser? If you haven’t got this far, follow this guide to the end https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/1.)+Getting+Connected+to+your+Duet/7
Once connected to DWC, you will be running the older version. To update in DWC, go to Settings > General tab and click Upload File (See https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_Web_Control_Manual#Section_General )
Go from your current 1.21 to 2.05.1, then 3.0, then 3.3 to get to the latest.
There was originally 3 fallback methods of updating the firmware, but we removed one to make the instructions simpler. Effectively #3 became #2. If you want to see the old instructions, see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware_(Legacy)
There’s also this getting started guide

@droftarts Before I started this post I got as far as config the wifi. I just got lost at updating, as there seemed to be so many options it was very hard to keep track of what instructions to follow. It is all updated easlay and sucsesfully once I followed https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/18962/firmware-not-updating/4?_=1624395230908
It just took me a while to understand where I was uploading too. Now it all seems to be fine, I am back on track with the rest of the set up tutorials

@jasperg great, glad you got it sorted.
