Possible new place for feature, "bulge control"?

While watching this video, Nozzle Cam - A new perspective on 3D Printing, I noticed that the extruded plastic bulges out at the nozzle, but then immediately snaps back into the appropriate width. I wonder if there is room for extrusion tuning here?

The idea of real time adjustments of the printing process via visual monitoring seems to be something that could work, in theory.
It would depend upon solving a number of technical issues.
I like the concept though.

@fcwilt that's an interesting thought. I wasn't thinking of using the camera, just that that's how I noticed it. I was just thinking there is another place where enhancements can be made.

@gnydick I noticed that too. I think this is indicative of steps/mm being too high for E.
It should be like extruding filament: you have to pull/stretch the filament at exactly the rate that it leaves the nozzle, otherwise you get bulges or stretches.
Or, maybe this is due to the temperature of the filament. When it's hottest, leaving the nozzle, it takes up more volume then quickly cools and shrinks?

@bot maybe. I know the silky filaments do this. If you've never done it, extrude a long section of some silky stuff with your gantry in the air. It looks like an earthworm locomoting.
