Unsolved Test stepper motor amperage?
-
Is there a way to test the stepper motors amperage, power, to see what its specs are via commands
Assuming you have a stepper motor that you have no idea what the specs are, but you want to find out
That would be cool

The steppers are dumb devices, they don't know anything about themselves, so we can't really ask. You can kind of test it yourself by starting from a low current value and seeing how it behaves. At very low values it might not even move or stall very easily, and as you increase the current it will get more powerful, and as you go up and up it will just start to get hot. You might also be able to find specs from a similar sized/length motor, but that's kind of dodgy. Better to just buy something with a spec sheet. Life's too short to mess with stuff like that.

measure the resistance of one phase
then google for stepper motors with that resistance and the same length. that will give you a good starting value for the current requirement.

they are a little older and weaker than I need, I decide to pick up these
I required a 34 max millimeter length
They should do the trick - replacing the stock ones of a Cetus MK3 - Proof of conceptThanks guys
