Any recommendation for a good gcode viewer?
-
@zapta best and most complete gcode viewer I ever saw is craftware slicer
-
Thanks @arhi. I think this is what I was looking for. I played with it briefly and it scroll the gcode on the left while I move the layer line slider.
Do you use it also as a slicer? How does it compare to PrusaSlicer? It seems to be more colorful than PrusaSlicer

Every new version they release I upgrade and try to use as slicer too but while it is the best gcode preview and imo most beautiful slicer out there the slicing capabilities are still behind idea maker that I use as my main slicer
comparing to prusaSlicer, dunno, hard sell, if I had to chose between the two I'd go with craftware and not with prusa slicer

Thanks @arhi. I will also give IdeaMaker a try, as a slicer.
UI and user experience are high on my preference list. That's why I prefer PrusaSlicer over Cura. Will see how IdeaMaker competes.

that's why I use almost anything over prusa and cura
idea maker, for me, looks like "upgraded simplify3d" .. very similar (imho better) interface. craftware, well you seen it, looks awesome, settings are clear with preview of what each settings does, very eye candy .. it has very advanced manual support system and the community is great so it is a very good choice for slicer too ... just, attm, I prefer idea maker, but that's my preference, you, imho, need to try them out yourself and make a decision .. prusaslicer/slic3r and cura are open source and that is a huge bonus over the free but not open ones like ideamaker, craftware... -
What are the artifacts you're seeing on layer change and when printing outer perimeter first using PrusaSlicer? Can you describe them or show photos or screenshots?
The GCode viewer in PrusaSlicer is sadly broken, but I believe they are currently working on it/fixing it.
I use Simplify3D as a Gcode viewer, merely because I have it and it can load a file for preview and render the toolpath based on a specific comment
; tool H<layer_hight> W<extrusion_width>
.I've found when loading models into cura, the preview gets messed up and segments are missing (much like PrusaSlicer preview).
IdeaMaker has the ability to preview external gcode, and from what I've seen it's pretty nice.

I use Notepad++ works flawlessly.

Sometimes i use https://www.gcodeanalyser.com/.

A quick googling of gcode preview or gcode viewer will give a few online tools to try, but they aren't that great honestly.

Under-extrusion at the beginning of the layer, after a long retraction/move.
I created a thread about it here https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/18104/the-long-short-retraction-challenge?_=1597162477087
